Transitioning from liquids to solids

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone...getting use to these new boards. Well i am about 1.5 weeks post op and have been doing well with liquids and mushies so the doc moved me to the next stage of mushies which include eggs, pastina, oatmeal, puress and things of that nature. When I ate I feel like it is actually going down slowly in my throat it is such a starnge feeling and was wondering if that was normal. I am also wondering how did you transition and what where some of the things you ate when real food was introduced and how much. The doc recommended to do 3 meals a day of 4-6 ounces of food. Do you measure how do you know??????Did it feel weird to start eating again and did you gain weight after you started solids again???

I did not start mushies unti week three. Do you have any liquid in your band? I wonder if you are are feeling the food travel down your throat because you are still swollen and/or the food you are eating is to "solid". When I moved to egg whites, cottage, ricotta cheese I did not feel it going down. But again I more time for healing. During mushies and now solids I weighed all Protein with a digital scale. Get one where you can zero out the Tare. Meaning put the plate on the scale and then zero it out.

I am not there yet as I am not banded (Nov 29). My Nut said 1 oz is 2 tablespoons of a mushy/soft food. My mushies/soft food with texture plan is 2 oz of Protein and 1 oz of veggie/carb at every meal (6 minimeals every 2-3 hours apart).

Hope that helps.

I get the feeling when the food hits the stomach. Even though I haven't had my first fill, I still get stuck if I eat too much, too fast, too big. My typical mushy meal is scrambled eggs with some diced chicken and shredded cheese, a can of chicken with light mayo or 2 hard boiled eggs.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
