Just Beginning on my Journey

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I was so glad to see this site. I wanted to stop by and introduce myself and continue to stay in contact with people that have had lap band surgery. I know that this will not be an easy process, but I have made up my mind to have the lap band done. I will be having my Endoscopy next Friday, Dec 3rd. I must say I am not looking forward to it, but I know it is one of the steps I must do. I hope to hear from others that have had the lap band surgery so that you can give me insight on your journey of weight loss and your ups and downs, because I know I am going to need all the support I can get.

I have been researching the lap band and it seems that there seems to be more photos of people that have had the gastric bypass than the lap band. It really helps me to see others that have gone through the lap band surgery. I know also that this will not be a fast process in losing weight, but in the long run it will be well worth it. I will be so much healthier in the long run. Anyway, I look forward to hearing from others. God Bless You all and Happy Thanksgiving.

Sylvia :D

I havent made any appointments yet other than going to my primary doctor. Im going to wait until after Thanksgiving and start the process in November. Good luck on your journery!

I must say I am a little bummed out right now. I really thought that the place I picked was going to be the place for me, but it isn't. I will be canceling my endoscopy for this Friday. It seems that this place that I went to care more for making it about a money or making a profit than they do about the patient. They scheduled all my appointments within the month of December without even calling me and asking me what my schedule is like. I have to turn in my schedule ahead of time for the holidays on my job and my schedule can not be changed to accomodate them. I felt that was very impersonal. They should call the patients and not assume that the dates are free that they pick. It will cost me out of pocket at least $400, because they are contracted with BCBS. I thought that they would have at least scheduled my appointments monthly. There is no way anyone can go to all these specialists appointments in one month unless they are rich or want to be in debt. I called my insurance company and after talking to them, I felt as though that this is more about the business than how they treat the patients. I already have someone in mind that I can make an appointment with and I know he is good, because he is the GURU in Raleigh Durham with the surgery. He did my gallbladder surgery and cares for his patients. I am glad that I found out about this before I got halfway through it and found out how this place was. It is better for me to learn a lesson early than too late and have too much money invested. My trust is gone for this group now, so I definitely will not be using them for a lap band procedure. Right now, I just feel like someone have let the wind out of my sails, but I will pick myself up and brush myself off and move on to somewhere where there are better people.

:( That completely sucks. But as you said. At least you found that out now and not half way through the process. Stay optimistic. Dont let the minor set backs take you off course. Thats great that you found a doctor that you're already comfortable with. Since we're done with thanksgiving I'm going to start sheduling my appointments as well. HOPEFULLY i dont run into that same kind of problem

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
