Wow did THAT suck! LOL

I've got 6ccs in a 10cc band and am feeling pretty good restriction and pretty satisfied for a couple of hours. I haven't had any issues with getting stuck before and even though I try to be careful with my bites and chewing...sometimes one gets down without really really getting it chewed as well as I know it should. I've been able to eat veggies, chicken breast etc with no issues, so I must admit I had gotten a little cocky that it wouldn't ever happen to me.

Yesterday, I was eating a piece of turkey lunch meat and it wasn't that big of a piece. While chewing, this actually WAS one that I chewed up well. Well, when I swallowed..oh boy. I could feel that sudden stuck feeling in my chest that wouldn't clear. I actually started to panic! I wasn't like I was choking..but BOY was it uncomfortable. I started trying to swallow to get it down and burping (I guess this is PB'ing and sliming???) Walking....squaking around like a chicken with my arms, Finally.......TMI...here it comes!! My body was having NONE OF THAT.... and I ended up spitting up.

Cockiness...GONE. Lesson learned. I don't EVER want that to happen again if I can help it. What a HORRIBLE feeling! BLECH!

I agree - it's the most horrible feeling to have food stuck....I've had that happen to me with lunchmeat as well, so I avoid it now ~ along with a lot of other foods (steak is horrible when it gets stuck). I have found that when things get stuck and you can't move them easily with Water or something carbonated (a no-no but sometimes the bubbles help), I was advised to do "downward dog" yoga position. It helps most of the time.

Yeah I am new to this as well!!! I did however find out what it was like to "slime" this week twice!!!! Two mistakes I made!

I first ate a few bites of grilled chicken and then followed it with a liquidity soup!!! OH yeah the no drinking extends to not eating soupy Soup on top of real food too!!! It wasn't anything I wouldn't consider eating separately but together was bad!!! :):)

And then....after two days of all liquids, like we are supposed to do after getting stuck/sliming, I ate broccoli for the first time since surgery. OMG!!! That was painful and slimy! So again with the two more days of liquids for me!!!!

HANG IN THERE BANDSTERS!!!!:thumbup::)

Live and learn! Oh yeah no more stringy veggies for me !!!

Once I get that "feeling" in my stomach, I spit out whatever is in my mouth and try not to swallow anything else. Think of a backed-up sink. Adding anything to it only makes it worse. The less to get through, the better.

I was going to post this happened to me today. I went to have a fajita and though in my head I chewed it well enough a chunk of chicken went down that wasn't small enough. I made friends with my porcelin bowl and slimed it out. JOY! Then I went back and finished my meal with out the flour tortilla and it went much better after that. This was purely my fault because I was soooo hungry. I had not kept up with my meals today.

Learning to eat slow and small is a process. The pain of being stuck should help us to do it less and less often. I hope!

I am only 9 days post-op and have just now started "mushies" so I have not had a stuck or pb episode yet. But, after reading this, I think I will steer clear of turkey! I have been warned about dry meats. Also, the nurse at my Dr said that eggs is something a lot of people have problems with because they can get Gummy and dry (scrambled eggs, I am guessing.) A banded friend says she eats them with salsa to keep them wet and has no problems!

I have found that bread is my worse enemy. I've been banded for 11 weeks, and have noticed that right before I realize I am stuck I get a horrible case of the hiccups. I mean they hurt so hard I almost want to cry. Anyone else have this symptom?

I am almost 2 years banded and still occasionally get stuck. Just this last week, twice on turkey!! I refuse to throw it back up, just walked and walked, with chewing papaya enzyme tablets and finally it moved down. I tend to miss meals on weekend and I get so hungry, either I take too big of a bite or don't chew enough. Wouldn't you think I would learn by now. I would hate to see if I had any fill, never had a fill and probably a good thing for that. Hopefully we will learn down the road....

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
