4 mths post-op & burning/tearing sensation at port site?

Recommended Posts

I have an appointment Monday with my surgeon but thought I'd ask if anyone has any input (hopefully to put my worst fears at ease!) about this pain I've noticed at my port site the last few days whenever I cough hard. It feels almost like a burning/tear sensation that really hurts but goes away instantly. Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar?

Hi Taterbugsmom,

What did the Dr. say about your pain?? I am having something very similiar and it feels like a pulling or tugging at the port. I've had this for a couple of days now and it only happens when I am walking or exercising.

Thanks:-)

Sara

As stupid as this sounds now.... by the time I had my appointment the pain had went away and I was so excited to have fell below 200 on the scale, that I completely forgot to ask DUHHHHH! I am assuming it was from me vomiting a few times a few days before my post???

I am having the same problem. But it pinched when I bent over from day one and never got better, just worse. Doc told me I had an infection and gave me 10 days of antibiotics. Today is day 7 and only minimally better. Doc said if it does not get better, port will have to be removed. But I agree, it felt like I did something, and the port moved, and now hurts to bend over. I can see the port, but then I could see it from day one as well. My appt is tomorrow, will let you know. Please tell us what happens with you as well.

I'm 6 months post-op and that burning sensation you all are talking about just started earlier today on me. The only activity I've done today is laundry. It hurts really bad, even now. I'm going to call the doctor first thing in the morning. WEIRD

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
