rl813 0 Posted November 19, 2010 hi all- I did not have lap bad, my dad did. i joined this site because i want to be a support for him. and i figured that this would be a great forum for me to seek support for him. today is post-op day 1 and i'm just really nervous. he's home now, the docs said that everything went well. but he's feeling a lot of pain, feels very dizzy, has nausea, feels very weak. he is very unstable on his feet. i know that this might be common, but it just makes me nervous to see him like this and i don't like to see it. any words of wisdom? when will he begin to feel 'better'? i just want my dad to feel better. thanks. Mariasha 3 Posted November 19, 2010 He should be fine within a couple of days - max a week or two. Take a look around the site - you'll find a ton of great information here!! Your dad is lucky to have such a supportive child.
RandomRan 1 Posted November 19, 2010 What a great daughter you are! Everyone's recovery is different. Some people expierence almost no pain ... for others, it's intense pain. The good news is, eventually, we all get through it and we all heal. Lot's of good info on here ... tons of great posts. Best of luck to your dad. LapBandBobbi 8 Posted November 19, 2010 Get your Dad up and walking as much as possible. This will help with the gas pains and he will feel better overall. Hang in there with him! Good girl!
Tally23 0 Posted November 19, 2010 Hey RL- he just had surgery he will feel pain and miserable. I took care of my mom about 5 years ago when she has gastric bypass. That was hard. Then three months ago I had the lap band and my mom took care of me. Pain is normal, use a heating pad on the tummy and take the pain pills. Drink lots of fuilds- as much as your can. Have him get up to move it will move the gas around and also help him in having a bowel movement. Good luck- Im here if you need to talk

rl813 0 Posted November 19, 2010 Thanks everyone for your words of support and advice. I'm glad I came across this site as it is helpful and as much as my dad needs support, I'm glad I can come here and share my thoughts and feelings too. Thanks everyone and I'll continue to post questions and thoughts to hear what you think. just fyi, he had a terrible night last night and felt horrible, i could hear him all night and i cried and felt horrible because i didnt know what to do but be there and comfort him. But today he is doing better, walking a bit more and not as groggy, shaky or disoriented. Thanks for your encouragement!! Randy
