new in chat rooms and lap band

Recommended Posts

I am just starting this journey. This site looks like it could be very helpful. I was looking for some of the not so good things that can happen with banding. The surgeons give you all the good stats about what can be achieve but not what goes wrong and how often real people experience it.I have seen the results of studies from the lap-ban manufacture. But I am looking for regular people experiences not filtered thought a lawer. Can you people help?? I want to make this work. which means avoiding any physical pit falls I can. So being prepare for the problems I think is the best recipe for success.

hey turf guy, I'm in pretty much the same boat. It's been over 1 YEAR since I started this process, and finally, FINALLY, I believe I'll have surgery late Jan. early Feb.

Now, on to "statistics". my best source are people I personally know that have a band. I know 4 of them; 2 men, 2 women. ages... late 40's mid 50's. I'm 52 myself.

Of the 4, 3 are doing absolutely wonderfully. 1, one of the guys, is not doing so well but he FREELY admits it's because he's having a very hard time adjusting all his habits. In spite of that, he's still lost 75 pounds.

All 4 of them have told me the same thing.... chew, chew, chew, and then chew some more. avoid carbonation unless you have really wierd fetishes about upchucking..

Me personally... always fought with wieght. maintained it pretty well throughout a naval career, but since retirement 14 years ago I've managed to gain 140 pounds. along the way I've lost 20 or 30 or 40, but gained it all back with a vengeance. it's not coming off, and the prescriptions to keep this load running keep piling up. I'm ready.

There is a complications forum here if you want to see the things that can go wrong. No weightloss surgery is perfect, so Lapband does have its flaws.

1. Slippage

2. Pouch dilaton

3. Erosion

4. Band just doesn't work for some people

Sometimes these just happen; sometimes it is doctor error, sometimes user error.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
