Banned on 11/11 - And I'm So Hungry

Recommended Posts

I was banned on Veteran's Day and I was/am so excited. The doctor's never told me that "GAS" could be so painful. I stayed overnight in Virginia Hospital Center and then was released from the hospital the next evening. I was in so much pain. Needless to say, I was readmitted on the 13th for serve "GAS" pains. I stayed in the hospital until this Monday. I'm now back at work and the Protein Shakes and Soup is just not doing it for me.

So, I decided to have two spoonfuls of mashed sweet potatoes tonight. I'm not feeling any discomfort. Am I rushing it to fast? I'm soooo HUNGRY! Any suggestions/help is so needed right now!

:blushing:

I understand you're hungry, but eating soft foods before your doctor ok's it could be dangerous to your band. The reason they keep us on liquids for a period of time is to reduce the peristalsis (wave like motion) of the stomach to allow the band to heal in a good position.

You really need to consult your doctor. He/she may ok it for you to move on up on the eating schedule, but none of us can say it's OK.

I truly understand and am not trying to come across as scolding. I made some mistakes in my early banding days and have been lucky not to pay any severe consequences.

Call your doc tomorrow and ask for help on the hunger issue. That's one of the many things we pay them for.. to support us through this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
