Is 3 wks enough between fills?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I was wondering how long you have have to wait between fills and why? I was banded on Oct 20 and was not able to get in an appointment with my fill dr until Dec. 13. So my surgeron said he would do my first fill on 11/23. So my question is can I keep my 12/13 appt after having my first fill on 11/23? I think it is around 3 wks apart. If so, does insurance typically require a waiting period or is it based on the docs reccommendations? I realize everyone is different, and I will visit with my dr about it as well. I really need some restricstion. I now understand the term bandster's hell:( Haven't lost any weight in a couple weeks. Is this typical?

I went 6 months before my first fill and my doc makes me wait 4-6 weeks between fills now. He says it takes that long for the swelling of the last fill to go down and for your body to figure out the new change. Sometimes after waiting 4 weeks, you realize you may not need a fill after all. Every surgeon is different, so yours may tell you different. :(

Initially my first fills were scheduled 3 -4 weeks apart. As you get closer to restriction the time frame generally gets a bit longer. Here they are pretty conservative and favour small frequent fills over big ones.

The most important thing is to only get a fill if you need one. It is not a race and you don't want to end up overfilled as that is miserable.

Thanks guys, I will only get it if I need it. What does it feel like if I hit my "sweet spot" or at least what did it feel like to you? Anything to look out for?

it's not so much how long between fills but how you feel, I think. I've had fills 3 weeks apart when I really needed it and have been 6 months between fills (while maintaining).

I know it's tempting when it's hard to get in for appts to go in for a fill simply because you have an appt, but really consider how you're feeling, whether you have good restriction and whether you're still losing before going for a fill just because.

But if you do feel like you need a fill, there's no real reason why 3 weeks between them isn't okay. In the early months just after my surgery, I was getting a fill every 3 - 4 weeks, just like elcee. I think that's the norm for Australian doctors.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
