I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself..Im a 23 year old female from san diego..I am married and a mother of a two year old very energentic toddler...I have been overweight as long as I can remember and maybe been my ideal weight for about 6 months then gained more and more...anyways I am excited for my surgery which is 6 months away..I have to show my insurance that I can fail a 6 month supervised diet...to me that is just a waste of time..anyone else have that problem?? any suggestions on how to make this experience the most fullfilling?? I need as much encouragment as I can get..my family is not really saying much, and the hubby does not seem to care.;)

Welcome!

Bummer that your husband isn't on board with the support. He may just be needing to see your fabulous new figure to notice you've made a life style change. Guys are weird. So are insurance companies. I don't understand the 6 month diet thing either. It's a stalling mechanism so they don't have to shell out the cash for the surgery. Don't they know that by the time we have become desperate enough for surgery we have tried everything else?? duh.

Hang in there and enjoy that beautiful San Diego weather. Good luck on your journey,

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
