Can you see your port?

I have a huge fear of being able to see the port after you get down to a certain weight. Can you see your's standing or laying down?...Nervous about this...

First of all you can ask for a low profile port. If it still sticks out once you reach a certain weight you can have your port moved.

My port was noticeable ( though no one ever asked) but I had it moved under my muscles. Now I can't tell where it is unless I lie down and poke around. There is still dead space you can see in photos if you look at my stomach but it doesn't look that bad.

I can see where my port is when I look in the mirror, but I don't think most people stare at my stomach long enough during the relatively few times it is on display (when I'm in my bathing suit) to notice anything. I can definitely FEEL it much better now that I've surpassed goal weight, and it is sometimes uncomfortable to lay on my stomach.

I'm hoping to lose just a few more pounds and more body fat, and it will be more noticeable then, but I don't think it will be too bad, at least not in comparison to how my stomach looked before I lost weight. ;) I might look into the low profile port at some point for comfort's sake; my doctor only offers that as a revision after weight loss.

You can't see mine, but you can feel it if you press around....it isn't uncomfortable for me and I forget it is there.

Are was told there is 2 different sizes ....is the smaller one the "low profile port"? I guess I need to talk to the DR about this because I'm concerned that it will show and I don't want that to be something new that I would be comfortable with.

Thanks! ;)

My port sticks out but isn't noticeable over my clothes. It's uncomfortable especially if I lay on my stomach but I deal with it and jokingly call it my tumor.

Yes, its very obvious but it doesnt worry me.

I'm the same.

I can see it very visibly but no matter how much I lose I know my tummy area will never be seen in public, ever.... so if it doesn't bother me I won't bother it.

Yes, I can see my port--standing, lying down, bending over... But I don't mind. It's a little lump--my husband says it looks like a little alien growing inside. Ha ha! I actually think it's kind of cool--in a wierd way, I know--I can move it around in different ways when I tighten/loosen different ab muscles. But, even at my highest weight, I never really had any fat on my upper abdomen (I'm quite pear-shaped), so now I really don't have any weight on my upper abdomen! No one can see it under clothes--even under a one-piece swimsuit it's not visible (but it is with a bikini). If you carry weight on your upper abdomen, you probably will never see your port (if they only could have buried my port somewhere in my a**!) I wouldn't let the possibility of seeing your port stop you from getting the band. Seeing the port's really not worth a second thought. Plus fills and unfills are really easy for my doctor! Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
