Pretty much do what your Dr. tells you to do up to the first fill, all phases are important. I personally did great and then after the first fill I wasn't getting the restriction or fullness . . . and it took me 2 years to go back and get another fill, as I fell off the wagon hard. But I'm back now and lost 6 pounds since last week, with great restriction!

I was told Protein Shakes for the first week, mushies for the second. I then went in for a checkup and was cleared for solid food. The diet wasn't hard to stick to, I felt like it just wasn't an option to go off the post-op diet. I got hungry about 3 days post-op. Took 3 fills to get restriction.

Ask if your doctor has a post surgery "diet" progression hand out. Mine had a 20 page document covering the first 4 weeks post surgery and beyond. When it comes to things like cottage cheese pick the low or non fat versions. Also for pudding cups pick the sugar free. I made my Protein Shakes with fat free milk.

Tomorrow will be one week post op. Still so restricted, I can barely sit without feeling like I need to rip off my bra from strangulation! Supposed to go to PF CHangs tonight for a shower. Don't want to go!

Just follow what the doctor says and go regularly for your checkups and fills. I personally got really tired of broth, so I devised a broth/v8/spice mixture that sort of tasted like a beefy Tomato Soup. This was what I ate to get the broth down as I hate broth. Remember even though you are so hungry at first you can do anything for a few days and it goes by really quickly.

I had my surgery on Oct.25 and haven't had a fill yet. I have no restriction so have to be real careful with amount of food and food choices. Can't wait to feel some restriction. I go back to the doctor on Friday hopefully I will get my first fill. Sounds like it will take 2 or 3 before feeling any restriction.

I'm confused...you were doing good UNTIL your 1st fill? I thought you'd do even better? What was the reason?

I was very hungry before my first fill. I actually didn't start losing a lot of weight until I went and got my first fill.

I suggest sticking to what the doctor says...It will stop you from thinking you have a slipped band...First time I ate something bad (and it got stuck) I thought I was having a heart attack...I thought my band had slipped too and was so worried. I screwed up in my second week and thought my band had slipped before I wasn't doing as I was told lol...But it was just stuck food, which happens ocassionally.

it was harder than I expected. I was super hungry all the time. I just had to have something to eat every hour or two, something small- a cheesestick or a banana or yogurt. Meals were misleading because I could eat a LOT more than 1 cup of food before feeling satisfied... but after 2 fills I'm starting to understand restriction. I think one more fill might be fantastic!

I was banded 9/22 and have not yet had a fill. I have an appt 11/30, but I really wonder how my Dr will feel about giving me a fill. I've lost 35 lbs since surgery, and that's pretty well on target (or better) at 4 lbs/week. I suspect my Dr will have me wait for a fill. ;) I'm sad about that because the past four weeks have been hell! I feel very little restriction in that I can eat anything I want, in any amounts!!! I don't do it (very often) but I can if I'd let myself! On the other hand, any meal of any size will get me by for about 4-5 hours. That part is good.

As far as advice, I recommend everythings that's been posted previously--follow your Dr's orders. Each step is important to the end result. They're like building blocks. You have to dd one correctly to get to the next level.

Hey, Billy! I see your surgeon is Dr. Canaday. Mine is Dr. Grandia! Your the first person I've found so far on this site from Holzer. I'm curious as to your experiences and progress.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
