Maybe getting cold feet

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My surgery is scheduled for weds. 28th, and I am starting to get really scared. I thought this was what I wanted to do, but reading some of these post have me thinking that maybe it is not worth it. I have two small children and a husband that is disabled. I have to be there for them, and I am worried something might go wrong. I really need your prayers, and maybe some words of encouragement. Thank A Bunch!!!;-)

Do you think their life will be better if you had this surgery and it succeeded (as statistics show that they do) or if you did not and continued to live as you are? I know it's scary, I was there myself with the "what am i doing to myself" thoughts. Logically odds of something going wrong are INCREDIBLY LOW, but on the flipside chances are obese people will suffer a variety of problems in their life. That being said you have to do what is right for you. Go with your heart, but don't let fear rule your decision.

Everybody is scared right before. Like Jini said, if you don't do something you may not be there in the long run. Having the band placed is pretty low risk, and recovery is pretty quick. You just have pre-surgery jitters. Take a deep breathe and try to relax. You'll do fine!

There is nothing to be worried about! You are going to do just fine. Life will be so much easier for you once you start to shed those pounds. I have been banded for a week now and I wouldn't go back for nothing!! For me, this is the best thing for me and my family. Just remember that everyone is different, and some people handle it different than others. Just be strong and focus on your health and you will do just fine!! Good luck!!

I was either terrified or crazy or maybe both. I went to Mexico (never travel at all, much less leave the country) only told my daughter what I was doing and went all by myself! On the way to Monterrey, I kept thinking that I was either really desperate or totally insain. All the usual questions about what if this happens and what if that happens.....I think that is normal. I decided that I was not crazy just committed to changing my life. I was scared but I had made this decision and I was going to go through with it. I have absolutely NO REGRETS! I'm sure that you will be fine. These doctors know what they are doing and if you are comfortable with the surgon that you have all will go well.

Good Luck!

I almost backed out.I was seeing post about band problems.I was freaking out.But I did it and I have lost 20 lbs since Dec 1st and my blood pressure is perfect and even better I am down from almost 70 units of insulin to 10 soon to be off in a few more pounds. It was by far one of the easyist surgeries I ever had.I have had 6. If there is a problem with the band in years to come I will be healthier and I will handle it then. For now Im getting healthy. If I can lose it I can keep it off.

For me the bottom line was prayer. I felt "peace" about my decision and flew to Mexico ALONE. I remember laying on the operating room table and hearing the words of my 21 yo daughter, "Mom, you will NOT regret doing this".... and I have not.

I think we all had the same jitters that you are having know. I am SO glad that I went through with this I am happier than I have been in a long long time. With and true gain comes a true risk. The risk is very minimal surgery espeically when compared to gastric bypass. Even though you read about complications on here I am sure that there are way more sucess stories. Good Luck and just keep focused on the out come:>

I had a 2-hour wait after I was prepped. I almost pulled out my IV and ran away. They had to go get my daughter who rolled her eyes and reminded me how much I had researched and waited and even moved the date sooner. Where did I GET such a logical child?

Hang in there. And remember many of the people who post are doing so for help. And read DeLarla's poll - 89% are 100% satisfied.

Hi there. I am being banded on the 28th as well and I'm getting cold feet too. I keep thinking about the what if's. I know for me it's the right decision - just search in your heart and let God guide you.

Prayers and wishes to a fellow 12/28er!!

I don't get banded till Spring so maybe I will get nervous then, but scared I don't think. I've waited too long and done too much research to be scared. For those with cold feet warm booties help a lot  There is nothing to fear except fear itself. Once it's over I bet you will wonder what you were ever worried about.;-)

I had mine on 11/7/05. If you would have asked me that first week I would have said don't do it. But really the worst pain was from the gas they pump in you to see what they are doing. It was the same as my hysterectomy so don't let it get you down. And a few days after you may ask why you did this. That pain and second guessing will be gone by the end of the week. I took my 7 year old to the park today. I played and even raced her back to the car. I haven't done that in years. I have come off of all my meds. No more Lipitor or joint pain or sleeplessness. You will do fine. Put your trust in the Great Healer. He will get you through it.

In discussing this with my PCP, she said there MAY be difficulties if you go ahead, but there WILL be major problems from the weight sooner or later if you don't do it. I'll take my chances with MAY...it's better than the certainty of health issues if I continue on as I have, which obviously isn't working.

What you're going through is very normal. Everyone has experienced the pre-op jitters. I can't tell you how many times I thought about not doing it. The day of my surgery, I came very close to walking out of the hospital - my surgery was delayed by 5 hours! Deep in my heart, I knew that this surgery was the best thing for me. Even though I am newly banded (11/17/05) I have absolutely no regrets. Recovery was a breeze. The whole process has gone a lot smoother than I anticipated. Best of luck to you in whatever you may decide to do.

You are very normal! All you can do is my an informed decision and go for it! Ask yourself, how you see yourself in 5 or 10 years. What do you want for yourself? Shawn

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
