Recommended Posts

I had my first fill last week and I have absolutley no restriction. I having a hard time controing my portions and Im worried Im going to strectch my pouch out. The Dr put in 2.5cc.... Is this normal. Am I going to sabatoge my upper pouch while I wait for restriction? My next fill is in 6 weeks, can I get one sooner. Im afraid I will gain al my weight back if I wait until then.

Everybody and everybody's band experience is different so it's hard to say what is normal. I know though that I didn't have restriction after my first fill (or my second for that matter) and had to rely a lot on myself and just making good food choices during that period prior to my band really making a difference. Exercise and activity helped a great deal to keep my mind focussed and not give in to overeating.

Have you contacted your doctor to see if you can get your 2nd fill any sooner? I got mine approximately three weeks after the first. Good luck.

Don't worry, it's pretty normal not to have restriction with the first or second fill. Go back as soon as they will let you and go until you hit that sweet spot. It takes patience, but it will be worth the wait. In the mean time, try hard not to gain. Try to get yourself to "diet" ( south beach is one I always recommend, it's band friendly and heart healthy). Get some exercise in. Set yourself up for your success later.

Good luck on your journey!

I just recently had my first fill (Monday). Started with 3.5. I don't have a great deal of restriction either. Just have to control what I'm eating and stay on schedule. I go for another fill in 6 weeks. This could be interesting.

i had a fill of 2.5 on 11/9 and i have some restriction. i go back on the 11/30 for another fill. The only problem is sometimes i feel restriction and sometimes i don't. i think it has a lot to do with how i eat. My portions are a lot smaller. How do i tell if i need another fill?

I'm so glad to have discovered this thread. I had my first fill on 11/9 too and I had very little restriction, so I'm going back on 12/1. It's nice to know that this part is normal. I can say that the amount of restriction does have to do with what I eat. I have to really focus on eating protein; when I eat other startchier foods I eat more. I'm planning to follow my presurgery diet until I go for my fill on Wednesday. Whats another week of Protein Shakes?

I have thought the same exact things. I went in for my first fill on the 18th and I only got 1ml ... absolutely no restriction as you can imagine. I really need the restriction and I'm having a hard time with it actually. I guess its pretty normal from these posts but its sooo frustrating!! My next fill is the 16th of Dec and I dont know if I can wait that long! Hopefully I get more than 1 ml next time.

Your stomach is still healing from surgery. You don't want to get fills too fast or too big because it can cause problems and hurt your stomach. Most people don't feel restriction until after a few fills.

Before you get to that restriction really shows you that the band is a tool and not a magic wand. You must work with it and help it with your weight loss. Try to keep up your Protein and lower your carbs etc.

Don't get frustrated if your not losing a lot of weight. A lot of doctors say that if you lose weight the first few months it is a bonus because that is really a time for healing.

I got my first fill today and the doctor put in 6cc. I was a little shocked that he put in so much but glad too. I don't know if I have restriction because I am on liquids for two days and they are going down fine. I am also hungry! I guess I will know if it was a good idea in a couple days.

I have had 3 fills now at 7 cc's had limited restriction after last fill but that has gone away. I am going in for a fill tomorrow. I would ask your doctors office how much time they require between fills; mine is min of 2 weeks. Once your required wait time is over call the office and ask if they've had any cancellations and then go in for a fill. That what I did after my second fill. Nearly did that last week but did'nt want to be on liquids over Thanksgiving.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
