What time do you have your last "meal"??

The way my day goes, in order to get all 6 meals in, my last meal would be at about 8:00. Is that too late?

Depends on what time you go to bed. I try not to eat for at least 4 hours before bed or else I end up with heartburn in the middle of the night, but perhaps that's just me.

Why not just cut back a meal...or eat your first meal earlier in the day? There's no hard and fast rule that says how many meals we need to eat. My last meal is about 6 p.m.

My last real meal is usually sometime between 6 and 730 depending on the day. However I do eat Snacks, sometimes right before bed. They are never huge- usually a weight watchers ice cream bar or a piece of cheese (or a pickle...I love pickles:P). I don't think it's good to eat large meals right before bed - I think there is a higher risk for heart related issues (like a heart attack maybe). So as long as you don't go to bed at 830 and it's not giving you heart burn or other uncomfortable issues while you're sleeping, you're probably fine.

It's really individual, depending on how tight your band is.

I had no issues eating late until just recently and I've been banded 20 months.

Now, I have to be sure that if I eat right before bedtime, it can't be anything dense otherwise I'll have reflux.

If what and the time of day you're eating is causing issues (reflux, no weight loss, other problems), make a change.

I know a few bandsters who make a habit of drinking a cup of warm tea before bed to sorta "flush" the pouch so that the issue of reflux is greatly reduced.

I don't know if this answers your question.. but hope it gives you some food for thought.

We eat dinner at 9pm or so and go to bed soon thereafter. It doesn't create any problems for me and I look forward to that relaxing couple of hours all day!

6 meals seems to be a lot. Most Dr's advise 3 but will bend on allowing a healthy snack between meals if required. That still only makes 5. When/what are you eating? Did your Dr advise you to eat this often?

I have no trouble eating before I go to bed although its not something I do often.

She may be talking about mini-meals. Much of the diabetic community has come around to the idea that 6 small meals are better than 3 large because it keeps your blood sugar stable.

I eat 6 meals, about every 2.5 years. Breakfast, mid-morning snack (usually an ounce of cheese or hard boiled egg or Protein drink), lunch, mid-afternoon snack, dinner and evening snack. If I tried to do 3 meals, 5 hours apart, my blood sugar levels would crash.

Some of the non-diabetic community is starting to look at that as a better option to just eating 3 meals, as well.

I typically eat my last meal prior to 8:00 pm and then have a cup of hot herbal tea just before bed time.

I try to eat no later than 7:30PM. 8:00PM if it's the weekend and I know I'll be up late. I exercise before I eat dinner. I give myself 3 hours from my last meal until I go to sleep.< /span>

I can't believe you have 6 meals. I eat three and do pretty well, without snacking. Sometimes I might have a bite of something, but not a "snack". I eat Breakfast at about 8:15a, lunch at about 12:30/1:00p and dinner about 6:00/6:30. I definitely try to make sure that I don't eat for at least 3 1/2 hours before I go to sleep.< /p>

Whoa! This just proves that everyone's journey and doctors are different. My surgeon's goal is 3 meals a day...if I feel like I need to snack, that is when I need a fill. Crazy! Well, good luck to you. I usually have no problem eating before I go to bed, but I try not to do that. I try to have my last meal between 6-7 pm, and then do a light walk around my block, helps with the reflux.

I normally eat dinner about 3-4 hours before bedtime. If I eat later than that it is only a small snack and then plenty of Fluid after. Too close to bedtime and I'll wake up with a cough/reflux.

I do not eat or drink anything past 8pm. I go to bed at 10pm. If I do I wake up choking on my reflux and it just isn't worth losing sleep!

And as a diabetic I eat 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day. Or really try to... sometimes 1300 calories just wont fit! :thumbup:

I can't believe you have 6 meals.

I am only 4 days post-op, and on the liquid diet. My nutritionist recommended my "meals" spread out over the day. Eventually I will only have my 3 meals. But for now, I really try not to eat past 8 pm, as I go to bed around 10 and do not want to go to bed on a full stomach.

This is an area in which I greatly struggle too and makes the biggest difference in my weight loss. If I've eaten much before bed, I can guarantee the scale will not be kind - it throws me completely off. The hard part is - that is the time when I'm the hungriest. My husband and I turn in around 7 or 8 and watch TV or read until he falls asleep and after that, I usually play on my laptop or watch TV with headphones for another couple hours. It's those last couple hours that I get so hungry. I am struggling to control myself during that time. I have good restriction right now and can even be on the verge of PB and still not feel full during those late hours. It's incredibly frustrating. I've decided to try to start making some air-popped popcorn with some butter spray and pepper to have it handy to munch on since it's low cal and Fiber rich.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
