Extra Hungry After Workouts???

Recommended Posts

I've been banded for 15 months. Lost 80 pounds but have noticed something strange. Generally my band stays pretty tight and I'm never hungry, nor can I eat more than about 1/2 cup of food without typical band issues. Which works well for me.

I exercise off and on but I have noticed one thing, when I exercise, no matter if it's just walking a couple of miles or a vigorous treadmill jog I am ravenous afterwards and I can pretty much eat whatever I want and in large quantities. No typical band issues. I can just eat and eat and eat and the scariest part is... I want to just keep eating, just like the old days. This may explain alot about my past history. I used to exercise a lot and was ALWAYS hungry.

Anyone else experience this? Should I go back to not working out? I really love not being hungry and not caring about food anymore.

Just wondering if anyone else had this problem.

If this continues I may have to have a tighten. I've put on 5 pounds in the last week and I've exercised more than I have in months. I've also struggled more in this past week than I have in over a year.

This doesn't really happen to me (and I work out fairly vigorously 6-7 days a week) but when do you work out? Often times in the evening I am MUCH more able to eat larger portions, whereas in the morning I really can't eat anything. so if you're working out in the evening, perhaps that is when your band is naturally looser. When I workout, my muscles often feel much more relaxed than before I work out or when I wake up in the morning. And I'm sure that effects my stomach and makes it easier for me to eat.

I experience the same, especially on days that I have boxing (Tuesday & Thursday mornings). The nutritionist and instructor says that the body needs fuel after a vigorous workout, which I tend to agree. I just eat extra Protein on those days - usually I increase my Protein to 80-100 grams from the usual 60 or so and that does the trick.

Lately, I haven't experience any weight loss; however, I've lost inches (as mentioned in a previous post I've gone from a size 14 pant to a size 10 since June w/o losing a pound) building lots of muscle and losing fat. My dear husband calls me thunder thighs now since they're no longer shaking like Jello :(

We're burning fat and building muscle and need the increased protein to fuel our bodies.

Thank you so much for your input. Sometimes just knowing you aren't alone gives you the strength and insight to handle your problem that much easier.

I do notice that in the A.M., such as right now, I can barely get my coffee down but by evening (especially if i exercise in the A.M.) I am able to eat generous portions.

I usually exercise in the A.M. for at least an hour. I generally don't feel the need to eat late until the afternoon or evening. I guess when I think about it I am still eating normal portions but that seems like so much after a year of 1/2 cup or less portions.

Just knowing that others go through this natural loosening/tightening daily makes me feel better. At least I know it's normal and can figure out ways to make it work for me.

The lap band has helped me 100% with that old struggle to compulsively eat. I love that about the band. I also know that I NEED to exercise. So now I struggle with "Should I exercise and fall back to struggling with compulsion or slack off exercise and win the battle with food." It's just something I will have to conquer with thought and prayer.

I think I'll just keep up my walking & light weights & see what the next few weeks brings. If I'm still struggling in two weeks I'll visit my doctor and maybe adjust my band a little.

Oh, and just an update because I'm not techno savvy enough to figure out how to adjust my ticker....I was 265 15 months ago. Now I'm 185 and a size 12 pant, top size M/L. I'm 5'6" and 41 years old. And despite what my silly bio says I AM a female. Tee, hee, hee. I don't know why it says male. :(

I love my band, it changed my life!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
