Chocolate and icecream ~ Self sabotage

Recommended Posts

I know this is not what you want to hear but a large portion of loosing weight with the band is not about your stomach but your head.

Thanks for this Honk, yes, you are quite right it isnt exactly what i want to hear, but did you know that this is not because i disagree with you, or because i am in denial?

I think it would be a safe bet that most people who have gone through the trauma of being overweight, which for those who have forgotten involves a great deal of shame, inability to control impulses, emotional trauma, self loathing and hopelessness on these very facts will be very aware that our state of mind plays a far bigger role in the issue and the success of weight loss than the stomach.

I am not looking for an easy fix.

My program required me to attend 3 group sessions to discuss our eating habits and relationships with food. The doctor who is thin and not banded discussed her own issues with ice cream. She made a rule that she can't keep it in her house. If she is out and sees a gourmet ice cream shop she can go in and buy a small/children's cone and that's it. When she brought her last child to college she was allowed to stop and Friendlies and get a small cone because it was a BAD day for her. She could not even keep small portions of skinny cow in the freezer because it would allow her to develop a distructive habit.

Personally I don't keep trigger foods in my house candy, ice cream, chips, crackers. If I am at a party I can some (one or two) but then I have to stop.

That sounds like an excellent strategy. Not keeping things in the house worked for me for a few years too and will again in the future i am sure, but, life gets complicated.

Many thanks for your reply,

Love Dune.

If your question is whether the band will help with emotional eating of creamy/sugary foods, I'd say no. Those types of foods do not slow down as they pass through the band, so you don't get the signal from your stomach that you are full and should stop eating, unless your band is very, very tight.

It doesn't matter how much food I've eaten, there is almost always room for ice cream, a milk shake, or chocolate bar.

Emotional food issues need to be dealt with in other ways than with a band.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.
