Recommended Posts

Hello

My friend and I are planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta MX to have lap band done in a few weeks. I was just wanting to get all input I can before flying of to Mx for surgery. Please reply if you have seen Dr. Joya, from what I can read on reveiws he sounds great. I think Mx scares me and just need some reasurrence. Thanks Heidi:confused:

I was actually scheduled to get a lap band from Dr. Joya next month (April). In all honesty, I just scheduled it yesterday but after doing more research this morning, I have backed out and chose to go with Dr. Kuri. He is $950 more, but feel my health is worth it! Hope this helps!

I had Dr. Joya do my surgery, no complications and NO regrets. Would use him again in a heartbeat. I was impressed with his surgical team and patient representatives who were available for me anytime I called. The hospital is top notch, cleaner and better ran then most hospitals here in the states. I should know I am a RN and make my living working in a hosp. Have you checked out his website and support group. www.drjoya.com , lots of good information and access to current patients even ones who go back to him even for their fills. If you would like PM me and would be glad to talk with you. I have done awesome, with my loss and once again had NO complications...:clap2:

I Also Used Dr. Joya. I Loved Everything About My Experience They Really Take Care Of You From Start To Finish And Puerto Vallarta Is A Very Nice Place. I Would Do It All Again. He Was Great. I Actually Wish He Was Closer So I Could Get My Fills With Him. But Oh Well. Mexico Is A Long Way From North Carolina.

When you look at a doctor, you must look much more longterm than people just banded in the last few months. Most problems do not start to appear until much later - most slips and erosions occur about 6-18 or 24 months out. that is when inexact placement and other possible issues arise. The surgery is only the very first step of many. then, you need excellent written instructions, good fills, and much more from the doctor along the way. Renee

I agree with everything BandterHopeful just wrote and that is the very reason why I chose Dr.Joya. He has a lot of experience and has been doing the surgery for some time. I have talked to some of his patients on the phone that are 3 and 4 years out. No problems and they have met their goal weight. I think that they are doing well because they were instructed to find follow up care before scheduling the surgery just as I was instructed. I left MX with a whole new perspective. It was an awesome experience that I would not trade. The office helps find you follow up care and and give a lot of information to help the band be the best TOOL it can be. My doctor in the states brags about how my port placement is so text book and a easy stick. My advice is research...research....research...

I agree with BandsterHopeful. Aftercare, is very important with the band! Not just your 2 weeks checkup, but years after banding. Please research, the best doctor, and make sure you have someone to call for aftercare and fill/unfills.

Good luck. Shawn

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
