Weight Gain in the mushy phase, questions

Recommended Posts

Is it possible that I am not eating enough and my body is going into starvation mode? I am trying to keep the right Protein in me, etc, my calories probably total 600-800 tops. I have started to add some real food, mushy stuff but now I am putting weight back on. My calories are still low seeing as I am less then a 1/4 cup on everything. One egg is not enough calories to push me way up over the limit. I think my body is going into starvation mode.

Anybody have any thoughts?

You've lost 25 pounds in 9 days! That is amazing! I'm experiencing a similar situation. I lost 19 in first 2 weeks but now in mushy phase and gaining. I have had some responses to my post that folks can and do gain weight then but tend to then lose again on solids. Do you have any fill in your band yet? That is an issue for me. I was banded on 10-20 but won't get my first fill until mid-December. My surgeon won't fill until 8 weeks after surgery. Also, I am having trouble getting to 1000 calories. I think if you just "soldier on", continue to do what you have been doing and walk, walk, walk, the weight will eventually start to go down again. Don't beat yourself up over this. I think we are in the same boat and once we are on solids and easily getting the right amount of calories as well as exercising a bit more vigorously we will find the weight will start to move. Slow and steady is the reason for getting a band and not bypass, right? :rolleyes2:

25lbs is from the beginning of the process. I had a six month dietician thing and doctors appointments of the wazoon. In 9 days I have lost 8 lbs only. I mean I shouldn't say only, I have lost 8lbs. So it is slow. Putting back on just brought it back up. That is all it seems like I can't get enough calories and my body is hitting starvation mode. When it does that you add fat.

I had my first fill yesterday, I was upset that I had only lost 2 lbs since my visit two weeks prior. my doc told me that it was not uncommon to gain during this time. she was very pleased that I had lost some. So dont stress. i know easier said than done lol i just thought if i repeated it to you, i wouldnt either hahah. Worry about getting healthy and recovering right now than loss. Get better, feel better, start moving around more, and you will lose. at least im hoping!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
