Nervous, seminar tonight!

Recommended Posts

I am not sure why I am nervous. I am just sitting and listening to information tonight but it seems nerve wracking. Probably because this is the first step. Although I am super happy about this, I am nervous too! So many thoughts and emotions. Is this normal? Anyone else nervous about the seminar?

Eeeek, thanks for listening!

i was nervous too going to my first seminar. do you have a friend or family member going with you? i went alone because i was hiding the fact i was looking into surgery. it made the whole experience nerve-racking.

turned out the first place i went to a seminar at didn't take selfpay patients AND the surgeon had never done a lapband surgery before... only bypass's.

i'm glad i waited and found a surgeon who didn't want to practice on me!

Yes, my husband is going with me. He's very supportive in all this but I am not telling anyone else because I don't want to hear the negative. The Dr I am going to does both the bypass and the band. I agree with you tho, I wouldn't want to be someone's first. That's a little scary!!!!

Write down any questions you might want to have answered? Good that your husband is going too, mine went with me and it helped me alot. The only question I ask was had any of his surgeries resulted in death and he said no. He was very honest about everything. Ask any question you have that does not get answered. Enjoy learning about your new lifestyle you are going into.

I was nervous too...But I sucked it up b/c no doctor here would talk to you unless you went to a seminar 1st. I felt like everybody was looking around to see who really needed it and who didn't lol. But is was great I have even went to several support groups since then

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
