Weight Loss in the "mushy" stage

Recommended Posts

Has anyone had the experience of no weight loss during the mushy stage of food? I lost 19 pounds the first two weeks (all liquid stage) but now the scale isn't moving. I am having trouble getting to the 1000 calories my surgeon wants me to be at now. Is it possible my body is kicking into "starvation mode" at this point? Or any other theories? Others experience this?

19 lbs is fantastic! :) I didn't lose weight until 4 weeks after surgery because of all the fluids they pump in you but..... a little over a year later i am down 122 lbs! Hang in there let yourself heal and follow the rules your surgeon has given you. As far as the starvation mode goes I don't know about that. IMO as long as you are getting in all your protien your body will use the reserve energy you have (fat).

When I did a week of full liquids....while on vacation, I gained weight...I was so upset that this band was not going to work for me. Hang in there....the weight will start to come off!! You just need to be a little more patient!

Good luck to you....

I basically lost nothing (2lbs) during liquids & soft foods. Once I got back on solids.. I dropped 20lbs in 9 days.

Hang in there.. it will happen.

Don't be discouraged. Remember, you chose a process that intends for you to lose weight safely and slowly. It was nice to lose 19 pounds quickly, but 1-2 pounds a week is the best rate of loss. Also, you will lose weight if you just stay on track...but there may be days where you actually gain back a pound. Don't get discouraged...you will lose weight.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
