nursemommypaige 0 Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) Oh my! Okay...so I posted before, that I really do not think that my insurance will cover me. I am 5'8 3/4 and about 250-255lbs. My BMI goes back and forth between a 37-39 and the only comorbidities I have are: sciatic nerve pain, knee pain, and acid reflux. Nothing life threatening anyway. So, I found a doctor that will do the surgery with my comorbidities....for 5000 down and $200/month for two years. This includes 90 days of fills for free, and afterwards the fills are only $50. Great deal right?? Well, to qualify for this special you have to have the surgery BY 12/30/10. I KNOW I Want this surgery..I have been thinking about it for years....and know several people who have had it. I have a three year old, and I want to be healthy for HIM.... Anyone made this decision in such a short period of time..... oh and how long does it usually take for the insurance to qualify or disqualify you? EliyshevaLovesYahweh 6 Posted November 13, 2010 One's decision to have this type of elective surgery should not be rushed, it should be an informed decision. I exhausted my researching ability to do this gastric laparoscopic banding for a whole year before I made the final decision to have this done. I know that the Ins Companies will exacerbate the process but one must never give up. Research the doctor of choice, make sure he is a board certified surgeon...check out if he is keeping up with the latest innovative surgery, e.g. the SILS (single incision). I believe your insurance company will reimburse you as long as your ins pays for this kind of surgery and you being the factor which qualifies for such surgery. Go to your Ins Co website and take notice of what their prerequisites are for bariactric surgery candidacy and take it from there. I am currently doing my six mo supervised diet, every month I go for weight-in - two months down and four more to go. I hope it all works out.
Beachbunny 5 Posted November 13, 2010 I went to a Dr in margate that does this for cash patients for under 5000 total and he has done over 2000 surgeries. He is a center of excellence DR. So if you want his name ill give it to you. ~jennifer
