I'm ready, wait am I ready

Recommended Posts

I finally can afford to have the lapband surgery after several years of wanting to get it done. Now I am having second thoughts, is this normal. All of a sudden I am wondering, will I ever be able to eat good things again. I am also going to an all inclusive next year and wondering how that will work. I am ready to feel better and get off some of my medication so why do I have these feelings. My trip will be about 10 weeks after surgery so should I wait for first fill after I get back. Help I need some suport

I think it is very normal. Once I committed to getting the surgery, I immediately got a little scared and wondered what the heck I was doing! I remember that was my first thought when I found out I was pregnant with my first child too, and I have never regretted him of course! It's just a MAJOR life adjustment. You can eat good food again, just in a different way.

I can't give any advice on the fills, as my band date is yet to come, 11/23. Good luck though!

I had alot of second thoughts too as I neared closer to my actual surgery date. I am betting that a good majority of us have gone through those doubts and it is completely normal. You are looking at a drastic change in lifestyle and to any of us that have become stuck in one way of living for so long, drastic change can sometimes be a scary prospect.

Especially I can relate since I know that so much of my former life was wrapped up in food. Upset, eat some food. Want to Celebrate a special day, eat some food. Just bored, eat some food. I am trying to stay focused now on making my life be about so much more than just eating. Although I admit, I still love my food and am still enjoying coming up with new recipes and cooking. Just trying to make sure it isn't the main focus of my life any longer. It can be a struggle some days though.

You definitely will be able to enjoy food again, think too of all of the new tastes that are out there that you haven't enjoyed before. There is a whole world of different tastes out there for us to enjoy. :) It will definitely change your eating habits though, you will be more focused on picking healthier foods and eating less of it at a time.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
