Holiday foods and eating

Recommended Posts

For me this is a victory because in the past I would have eaten at least THREE cupcakes by now.

For me, the best thing is not the weight loss ... it's that I am changing the way I think/feel about food. It's been a long road to get here, and I think I still have a ways to go, but I am really happy with how far I have come. I don't think I would be where I am without the band.

Because of the band, I am not the least bit concerned that I will overeat for the holidays. It's a great feeling!

How does everyone else deal with eating during the holidays and ppl trying to force food on you? It's my ultimate decision on what goes on my plate and what goes in my mouth.

I just politely say, "no thank you". If they continue to push, I will say, "no thank you". At some point, if they're rude enough to keep pushing, I will say, "what part of 'no' don't you get?"

I don't feel I need to give excuses for why I don't want to eat something...and people with manners will accept the 'no' and move on. Unfortunately, our nearest and dearest don't always exercise good manners.

Generally, there is something I can have at most functions...just in lesser quantity and I avoid the wasted carbs (Cookies, pies, etc.).

I am taking mashed cauliflower to my in-laws this year though because I do miss the potatoes but I don't want the carbs. Fortunately, my husband's family are *very* polite people and would never comment on what I do (or do not) put on my plate.

I asked my mom to keep thanksgiving low key this year. No extended family, just siblings and their wives/children. I grew up in a family where pigging out is the norm and nearly 60% of them are overweight. I knew that having other people around watching me eat thru this first banded holiday would be strange for me. I didn't want the comments, questions, etc.

I wanted to be distraction free since this band thing is still so new for me! I've explained to my family that I want them to have food ready early in the day so I can take the entire day to have three small meals, eating different things each time!

After my last fill, i've come to realize, pigging out is NO OPTION any longer! Strange feeling, but also very reassuring to me to know that my band is doing what it is supposed to do!

Good luck everyone, I hope you are able to overcome these food demons on the holidays! And if you can't, don't beat yourself up over that bite of pie. If all else fails, head out shopping on Friday and walk it off!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
