4th day banded but do have some questions.

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone It has been 4 days since getting banded. Overall everything is doing well. For those of you who had issues with gas what did you find to be the way of getting rid of it. I went walking earlier and that seemed to help somewhat. I am hopeing to find something that might give quicker results. The doc had told me to pick up GAS-X but that doesn't seem to help. The first 2 days were no issue but these last 2 have been a little rougher. Over all it's still not bad but any way of eliminating pain would be very helpful.

Thanks

Robert

I had a lot of trouble with gas and they checked and i had a gas bubble trapped. Simple solution: Lay on your left side. It work for me. Give it a try.

I am five days post op and the day I left the hospital I felt wonderful!!! but, for the past few days I have pain in y left shoulder, left side under my shoulder blade in the back (started to worry it was my liver, kidneys) even though my surgery went perfect! My port hurts too! I am assuming all the pain is from gas and having an operation!

I spoke with the nurse on Friday and she said because I was constipated, I should try not to use the pain meds..I did for a yesterday and most of today and just took tylenol and once I got home from shopping, I was like..Im taking a pain pill! (only one)

I am day 5 out. Somet of the tricks I have heard:

a. sleeping Elevated

b. Ginger Root Extract

c. Laying on the left side as you can tolerate.

d. Walking, walking, walking and some more walking.

e. GasX

These are what I have seen people post. For me, it was just walking, walking and walking. When I first wake up in the morning it is the worst.

You could also try a heating pad on low.

Robert, I walked, I stood instead of sitting. I took GasX and the gas has gone. Perhaps, it just hasnt been long enough. I did take liquid lortab to stop the pain. Perhaps that made the difference for me. I do have a question though, can you feel your band? I only feel my port.

At this point I have not tried to feel for my port. I am weird about things like that. It may freek me out if I can feel it. :smile2:

I used a heating pad on low and walking was always a plus. I used liquid mylanta instead of Gas-X. I also drank iced tea (decaf) and that seemed to help. It has been an incredible journey sometimes difficult and other times really good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
