New and nervous in Jacksonville

Recommended Posts

Good Morning, I have been getting thru each step toward a new life. I haven't got a date yet but will talk to dietician, councelor, Dr next week. I think my biggest worry is the aftermath of weight loss after stretching out my skin so much now on my stomach. Does everyone have that problem or can it be minimalized? I'm a big coffee drinker too and will have to adjust until a good time to enjoy it again....even if it's less. Has anyone just switched to tea? Have a good day, Linda

My wife has had her band for a couple of years now, but with a lot of exercise, the excessive skin issue has not been a problem for her, I on the other expect to have some, but since I was just banded, not a lot to report yet. I think Exercise and good eating will help keep the skin a little pliable and allow it to snap back. I was fairly active before the band and hope that will be in my favor.

Good luck with your band. My wife's has been very successful and I hope to have the same results

Skin issues depend on whether or not you EVER smoked, amount of weight gained/lost, how long you were obese and genetics.

Exercising and drinking lots and lots of Water can help some too.

Even with lose skin, I'm still so much happier at 212 than I was at 385. It's totally worth it. And they make lots of really good Shapewear these days, even for guys.

I know at the beginning of my journey I thought Spanx? nah.. no way. Now I like them.

Linda, I'm confused on your statement about coffee.. does your doc make you give it up?

I drink tea frequently now, but still have a couple of cups of coffee a day. I try to keep it to 2, but not so rigid that I won't have a 3rd if I really want one.

Hi and thanks for the replies. I guess with the coffee I kept hearing we have to cut down or cut out the caffeine. I see different people have different "menus" so some of it's not as strict as it may seem. I met with Dr Whelchel, he will be doing the surgery at St Lukes. I'm still getting used to this.....but I have been cleaning out my pantry!

Hi, I started exercising last year more regular than before. I think I can get back on it now. I had some problems with foot(that started my pc Dr talking about this) and have been able to get back on wii now. I figure I will need some extra work with stomach. I saw Dr Whelchel for the surgery. Thanks

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
