Lost the Plot

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am 9 days post op and have cheated already:frown:. I ate some solid food. I justified it at the time by chewing really well. I also thought that so long as you didn't throw up it would be alright. I have since done some further reading and found that not to be true.

I feel like a total failure and am convinced that I've ruined everything. I am scared that I've done damage, although I feel no different.

Since about day 5 I have thought of nothing but when I can eat next. I am worse than what I was before surgery.

Have I ruined my last chance? Has anyone else felt like this?

I feel like giving up.

Dave...sorry you are struggling. Best to quit beating yourself up and force yourself to get back on the horse. When you are tempted, do something to take your mind off of food. Take a walk, brush your teeth (this always worked for me), do anything at all to refocus.

There are going to be many times in your future that you will have to make choices when it comes to your food plan. You can make a good choice or not so good choice. And, you know which choice will bring you down that road to success.

Good luck

Try Spreading out your "meals". When I was in the clear and full liquid stages I would have the Soup and then wait an hour or two to have the Protein Shake. If I let myself get to the irrational hunger stage then I am more likely to eat somethign I should not. I am not a medical professional but I would think having an extra serving of broth would be better for your healing stomach than eating solids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
