How long post surgery did take off work? i'm trying to figure out...everyone says something different. I'm planning on my surgery on a Wed, and returning to work on Monday or Tuesday. I have a fairly light duty physical job at this point. How long did everyone take off?

I was only banded on October 27th. I too thought I would go back to my job on the Monday after. Well...I finally went in for a half day yesterday and had to work from home today.

You are correct though, each person is different.

I had my surgery on Tuesday and went back to work the following Wednesday. My 1 week follow up appt was on the Tuesday before I went back on Wednesday and my company requires a Dr.'s release before they will let you come back to work. I felt ok when I went back, but really got kind of weak about mid day - and I have an office job. Personally, I think less than a week is too soon.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday, and went back the following Thursday. I have a moderately heavy job (standing 10-12 hours a day as a Veterinary Technician, and lifting animals) and only ended up working 1/2 the day, as I was exhausted. The Friday went much better, and after the weekend, I was pretty much back to normal. I had 9 days off officially.

I had surgery on 10/27 I thought I would go back on 11/2(day after my birthday) I also have a light duty physical job,(A lot of walking to and from meetings and computer work) I returned to work last Thursday for a half day on Thursday and Friday. I was still having a lot of gas last Monday and Tuesday and was only averaging about 300-400 cal. I literally had no energy. Today Saturday, I really feel good, except this discomfort in my left side where the port is and where my largest incision is. I suggest you take at least a full week, it may have just been a simple surgery but as my MD said it is still general anesthesia and it takes a little time to recover. Good Luck.

I took 3 weeks off by that time my incisions had completely closed and I was exercising and eating food. I have a moderately strenuous job and by the time that I came back to work I had pep and vigor and did not have any energy issues (I work 12-14 hours/day).

It all depends on your job and the company you work for. I had my surgery on October 11, and dont work till November 22. My job requires me to do alot of bending and lifting and the doctor didnt really like me doing that so he restricted me to 20 pounds till Nov 22, my company didnt like all the restrictions so I just went on disability till then. It just depends on your job....

I am planning on a week (banded 11/3). My main concern is going to be wearing a bra - I have an incision pretty high that I think will be uncomfortable. Also some walking, but otherwise a desk job, worried about energy level.

I had my surgery on Wednesday (10/06) and worked from home that same Friday - went back into the office for the full day on Monday (10/11).

I wish I had asked this same question. I had my surgery 10/25 and thought that I would go back to school on the following Thursday......not happening. I had VERY bad gas pains and port pains. Today is the first day that I actually feel good enough to stand at the sink and wash dishes. I would advise to give yourself at least 2 full weeks off. Don't try to push it. It just isn't worth it!

I had my surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work the following Monday. I felt pretty weak but was happy to get back to my regular schedule. I felt better everyday and was back to normal by Wednesday. Everyone handles the pain and stress from surgery differently but I would recommend at least 1 week. Good Luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
