Since being unbanded, I am struggling again with the head demons. I am trying really hard to not give in and most times I beat them back. However, the times I don't will eventually catch up with me and I will start gaining. DON'T want that to happen.

So, I am soliciting all info on the several diets that are out there now. I would ask for websites of the diets and any and all info you can share. I am almost to the point of doing a liquid diet for a week. SO SAVE ME FROM MYSELF!! HELP!!!

Oh yeah and HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!

Penni,

Doctor Phil has a great book out for weightloss. I almost went on his program right before discovering the LapBand. I find him very inspirational, and his book may be able to help you out as well.

Best wishes to you girl. I certainly feel for you.

Love Ya! ~Kelly

Penni, I think one of the healthies ways of eating is the Mediterranean diet. It focuses on veggies, fish and chicken, whole grains and olive oil. When the new year begins, I will try to follow this as my weight loss program. I will also do this for my family too. Its great b/c you can fill up on healthy veggies and make them tasty too. If you have a Trader Joe's near you you can get alot of this stuff there at a good price.

Good luck sweet lady, let us know how and what you decide to do !!!!

After being banded for a little over 2 years my head is not in the right place and I am not losing. My daughter has a weight problem and in order to encourage her to lose weight I will be going to WW with her starting next week. Although it never really worked for me in the past, I am hoping that this diet along with my band may do the trick.

Penni, I just want to wish you well and encourage you in your journey...I know it has taken a new direction and one you didn't plan for, but you will find your direction again. Any plan is better than no plan. Look at some of the ones that have been suggested, and choose one that fits your likes/dislikes and personality. I know WW has been fantastic for lots of people, but counting points just wears me out and makes me rebel. I have read and like Dr. Phil's book, and am willing to send it to you if you want it.

Good luck, Cindy

Someone asked where I was in the scheme of things with the band. I had lost approx 60 lbs and still needed to lose at least 50 more.

I can get rebanded in 6 months. But I will do that only if I can get the Insurance to pay for it. I can't afford another surgery.

I am looking at all my options as far as what to do about the diet. Thank you for your kind offer to send me Dr. Phil's book but if I chose to do that I can just order one. But the offer is very sweet and full of compassion.

It has been a struggle. I gained about 5 lbs over the holidays. So I think that was pretty good that it wasn't more.

It is still a battle every day with food. I try to get in my veggies and Protein and steer clear of the starches. bread is my weakness. LOL!!

Thank you for all your continued support and encouragment. You guys ROCK!!

Penni - I will be praying for you to be strong - i would be scared knowing how I have overeaten in the past.

Did insurance pay for your first surgery?

I will be thinking about you and hoping that you remain strong.

Well, Ms Penni, if I had secret, I'd have saved myself a bunch of money. I would hope if I had lost my band, that I would eat more Protein and eat the Protein first, which would be a very good idea for me to reprogram myself NOW.

Good Luck Lady!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
