Still in the honeymoon phase

Hi,

I was banded last week. So far, so good. Hungry a little but not horribly. I really think I am not eating enough but I am working on that. I am looking forward to being able to eat more real food next week.

I am excited about my progress. But I am worried.....I am doing well but don't feel any restriction. I am worried about food getting stuck. If it gets stuck, do you vomit like you do when you are sick...do you have any warning??? I am almost afraid to start eating real food again. :frown:

Sorry....my brain just won't stop!

well I am 4 weeks post op. I lost 28lbs and have been stuck twice.

One time I got stuck on a hardboiled egg and second time on a crabstick.

It is a very heavy feeling. It feels like someone is twisting your stomack so the food wants to come out.

I didn't womit but I tried to squeeze my throat so I little bit of food goes back up for a moment - that helped.

Just do not forget to chew chew chew and small bites... don't eat doughy stuff - that is the main cause of being stuck.

And about being hungry - I was starving 1 week post op so doctor put me on phentermine - it works beautifully.

I am waiting for my first fill now to get off the diet pill.

Hey - good luck! We all have so much to look forward to.

It's normal to be hungry. The band doesn't completely take away hunger, it's just supposed to diminish it to where you have more control over what you eat. :mad2:

When I have stuck episodes, I definitely have warning. There's discomfort in my chest area.. at times it's been bad enough that if I didn't know I had a band, I'd think I was having a heart attack. Let me emphasize that this level of pain is only OCCASIONALLY that bad. Usually it's just really uncomfy.

It's not exactly vomiting either. It's more like baby spit up. There's usually no nausea and there's almost no bile taste to the food that comes back up. Once you get rid of the item that's stuck, you're back to feeling normal again about 99% of the time.

I have had episodes where I did want to go find some phenergan, but that's not a usual occurrence.

Try not to worry about real food. Welcome it. In fact, my weight loss didn't really take off until I was on solid food again. Take tiny bites (pencil eraser size) and chew chew chew. Eat slowly. Don't wait until you are overly hungry to have a meal (this will help avoid "first bite syndrome" which often leads to getting stuck and having to refund what you just ate).

Everyone has slightly different experiences. You'll probably get differing responses.

Next question? :frown:

i just had some cream of wheat today. It tasted good after days of juice and Jello. Something with some substance. got full quickly. i too am happy with the honeymoon weight loss. seems like i wake up to 1-1.5 lbs down every morning. I imagine that is about to end since my caloric intake will be up with full liquids.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
