Well I got banded today at about 11:30 and I am feeling great. I can't believe how quick the surgery was. I have very little pain at this point. I am sure it will hurt a lot more tomorrow. I am so excited to start living life and enjoying life with the family.

Best of luck to you!!! Please keep us updated on your progress. I'm having mine done on the 17th and I'm a little, ok a lot, worried about the pain.

Congrats, I got banded on 10/1 and had absolutely no pain and never took any pain meds. The swelling made life a little un-comfy for a couple of days, but nothing a couple of Tylenol couldn't handle. I get my first fill on the 9th.

Welcome to Bandland! I didn't have much pain either. A headache is way worse. Good luck on the liquid diet and on the mushie stage. It will go by very quickly and it's very important for your healing.

Have a great journey!

The only issue I seem to be having now is every now and then I get nausea and then dry heave. It does not feel good at all. I went to my follow up to day and they said everthing looks good. I can eat Soups tomorrow as long as they are blended with no chunks. I hope this helps with the nausea.

Dry heaves??? Hmmm, I wonder if it is like I had and that was massive hunger pains. The liquids just were not cutting it for me. I had to stop the all diet and move to mushy foods after 3 days. All liquids me a feel of nausea, but once I had some grits or oatmeal, it quickly went away. I moved to fairly solid food within 14 days.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
