I am experiencing a huge amount of pain in both of my knees. I have no reason why this happening. Its so bad in the mornings I can hardly stand up but it doesn't go away after I'm up and moving. When I went and got my fill last week the doctor asked if I had any pain in my calves but I didn't so naturally i said no. I honestly dont have pain in my calves its my darn knees. I hope this isn't a side effect of the fill cause I'm going to be pissed.

It could be poor circulation if it's occuring in the morning. Have you have a blood test recently? I found that my knees ached when I had a Vitamin D deficiency.

I've had knee pain for quite a while. I seriously doubt it has anything to do with fills.. but everyone is different! Mine is from various causes.. being overweight for so long and from stressing them too much from vigorous exercise.

I take my Vitamin T (Tylenol) every morning [bad joke]. It's just recently become more manageable since I've started a few things...

Please ASK YOUR DOCTOR before trying these..

Added extra D3 to my Vitamin regimen.

I take Glucosamine/Chondrotin with MSM three times a day.

I just started this week taking a small amt (1 or 2 tablespoons) of dried tart cherries at night (At night because Cherries have melatonin which helps with sleep). There's research that shows that cherries have an ingredient that works very similar to pain relievers. This article explains it better than I can.

There's also cherry extract which comes in capsules and has less sugar. I will try it when I run out of my dried cherries. The dried ones I found have only 100 calories in 1/4 a cup.. so I'm getting only 25 to 50 calories per night in my small dose. Not all that significant (for me.. YMMV).

You may also benefit from strengthening the muscles that support the knee. I go to the gym and do leg extensions on a machine and that has helped too. You don't have to go to the gym. You can do them at home with a beanbag or a bag of rice on your ankle. Sit in a chair and put a weight on your ankle and raise and lower your foot. Do a set number of repeats (8 or more if you can manage it). Rest a bit, do another set. As you get stronger, increase the weight.

Get a referral to physical therapy and they can teach you more exercises to help you.

Hope some of these ideas will work for you.

I've had knee pain for 11 years now. If you have insurance I suggest you see an orthopedic doctor. Mine hurt all day long. I have what's called patellofemoral knee pain. It will never go away completely but it's more manageable now that I have a specialist working with me on it.

For me the best thing I've found for it is Tylenol BUT you have to get the Arthritis pain formula. It's the strongest Tylenol you can buy. It does wonders for my knees.

I can't imagine how knee pain could be related to the band, unless you're very, very fresh postop. In that case, operating table positioning could be a factor. Also, if you're freshly postop and guarding your abdominal muscles due to pain, this can affect posture and gait, thereby requiring you to use your legs/knees differently. This, too, can result in pain issues.

For my knee pain, ice is tremendously helpful. (Heat feels better, but ice works better.) I can't take NSAIDs (not just because of the band, but because of allergy), so the only pain meds available to me are actually not terribly effective.

The best "medicine," by far, has been losing weight and consistently exercising. For the latter, it would be a good idea to get a physical therapy referral (after a good assessment of the knees by an orthopedist to rule out any issues that might preclude PT, or guide the prescription), so that you can learn exercises that target the area.

The recommendation for glucosamine/condroitin is a good one. Be aware, though, that glucosamine can skew blood sugar. For diabetics, this can be a real problem. For nondiabetics, it can trigger hunger as blood sugar rises then plummets. Just something to be aware of.

The cherries previously mentioned do have antiinflammatory properties. They need to be dark tart cherries. I avoid dried because their sugars are so much more concentrated. But Dole's frozen dark cherries do the trick for me. Just ten cherries makes a difference.

Two other good additions for inflammation: flax seed and fish oil. For flax seed, do NOT buy the oil or already-ground seeds. The oils oxidizes very rapidly, and loses its Omega benefits. You're left with a perfectly nice oil (or nice seed meal), but the most important properties for inflammation will have dissipated before you even get home. Instead, buy whole seeds, and crack or grind them right before using. (I use a coffee grinder.) A tablespoon a day in your yogurt or sprinkled on a salad can really help with inflammation issues.

Fish oil does the same thing. A combined EPA+DHA level of 1,200-1,500 mg is a good starting place; you can work up to around 6,000-8,000 mg/day.

Need to have this looked at and tell your dr. I just had a circulation study done because I had similiar pain after a heavy charly horse. My Calcium was down and Creatinine was up, way above normal...so everyone will be different. But I would get this looked at.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
