Gallbladder problems post-op

Recommended Posts

I am one month post lap band and I have started having real pain at the top of my ribs, right side, and the pain shoots through to my back and shoulder blades. Has anyone had a similar experience?

I too developed Gallbladder problems one month post-op. The symptoms are exactly what you describe. It is an excruciating pain that feels like what I imagine a heart attack would feel like. I had mine removed just over a month after getting the band and feel much better. Good luck!

It does sound like gallbladder issues. Does it happen shortly after you eat or wake you up at night? I also had my gallbladder removed this past June and I had pains which I thought were cardiac related. I would most certainly make an appt to get it checked out though.

Hi:

Sounds like gallbladder issues to me too. I had mine out 9 months after banding. You should see a doctor and get it taken care of.

Feel better soon!

Sue

I'm sorry you're in pain! You're in good company, though. Gall bladder disease affects a significant portion of people, especially women, as they lose significant weight.

I hope you get things resolved quickly--it's a miserable pain.

I actually just had mine removed yesterday morning. The pain was exactly where you describe. I had a couple of gallbladder attacks before but just chalked them up to heartburn issues. The surgery wasn't bad and I'm feeling better than I thought I would. Get it checked out ASAP because my white blood cell count was up and it was affecting my liver.

Betsy,

Is it the significant weight loss...or how fast you lose it?

I just had mine out as well - had attacks several months ago but didnt see the doctor about it until they were so severe I was crying in bed. I lost 75lbs in 14 months before I had the gall bladder attacks. Surgeon said it was full of stones - looked like caviar. :)

Surgery was worse than the band (pain-wise, for me)...I had it on a Tuesday and was back at work the following Monday. With the band I didnt take any pain meds, but with this one I sure did. The belly button incision hurt the worst.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
