Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Tami, I am a mother to 2 beautiful boys & married to my hubby for 20 years next April!

My first journey was being a Gestational Surrogate for friends. I gained most of my weight over the last 6 years after my 3rd pregnancy and with every new IFV attempt for a sibling was 15 more pounds with hormones.

Now my new journey....I was banded on 10/25/10. My starting weight was 260lbs at my pre-admission testing. I had a 4 day liquid diet prior to surgery & i am down almost 20lbs since last Monday!

Things seem to be progressing as expected. I was pretty uncomfortable the first couple days from the gas & not sleeping the best, both of which have improved greatly. I have to say that i'm not starving at all at this point. I do find that i "want" to eat at the normal meal times, it's not i "must" eat. Learning that about myself is a huge step forward! So with not much of an appetite, i'm trying to get in all the requirements of the diet & liquid but Struggling a bit with the Protein. I have been able to get in the Carnation Breakfast shakes & i have one Protein mix that if i mix with Choc milk, it goes down, but it's a force!!!! I move to the mushie stage tomorrow according to the doc's plan that was provided. I really think if i had to do a few more days of Soups & yogart, i'd be good with that.

My poor hubby though, every time he sits down to eat, he says "I'm sorry" & feels bad. I've told him over & over, it's no problem, it's my change & i'm good with it. Sure they'll be hard days & then i'll need his strength so he should save it for those when they come. God, I love that man! :)

ok, guess that's enough rambling for now! Thank you all for the wealth of knowledge and support on the forum. I'm glad to be starting this journey knowing that I will not be alone.

Hi and welcome. Glad to hear that you are doing well so far. Please note that if you do not feel ready to move onto the next food stage yet you don't have to. If you want to do a few more days of liquids that is fine.

Normally people are trying to move through them quicker which is not recommended but slower is fine.

Hi, Tami. I'm glad to hear you're doing well. My surgery was 10/22. It is going great! I laughed at your post because my husband and daughter both had KFC the other day and they were sitting at the table trying not to crunch so that I they wouldn't "tease" me. I was quite okay with my won-ton Soup (minus the noodle, of course). LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
