Differences in bands

Recommended Posts

Well Hello!

Claire I read about osmossis where some of your fill does not come out, evaporates?? On my second fill (blind) we didn't get exactly what they claimed was put in on the first fill(done by another Dr.) We did see some air in the syringe the dr. claimed it was in the needle and theres alway risks of leaks...I only have had 2 fills and am up to 3.5cc's(I'll be doing the corversion to mls). So far today we went SF and had seafood, I couldn't eat half my plate.

chocolate ooooo just had some thanks to XMAS Try not to eat too much.

Sarellano Did you just have your band placed resently, this Dec? The 3rd week got me, could eat anything, try to get your protien in!!! Once you get a fill, restriction...

I called quite a few places and always mentioned that I have an AMI band with a titanium port, Can I get I fill? Your first fill should be done under flouro.

Obesityhelp.com has listings of bariatric doctors for starters. I have a great fill dr. in San Jose CA. Dr. McKeen(southbaybariatrics.com)

The Obtech address is in the UK I have all the info at work but I believe its know as the swedish/swiss band??? AMI aka AGB. I had to pull teeth for info and Obtech does not respond to my e-mails..... I'm still VERY happy with my band.

I'm so glad to hear from all of you. I'll wright more soon.

No problems but I did have a tough time until I had the right restriction. It can take a few fills to get there. Best of luck.

Vera, yes it was this year (4 weeks this Saturday). I'm able to eat everything and in pretty big quantities. It makes me feel better that you were the same way. They put in 3 cc's when they did the lapband, so I thought maybe I would have restriction, but as of my 3rd week, no restriction. Do you know if they filled you with 3cc's when they put in your band? And how many cc's did you get on your 1st fill, etc.?

kiwigirl, can you tell me about your experiences with restriction with your swedish band? How many fills & how much each time, etc.? Thank you ;) Most people seem to have the Inamed band, so there really isn't a ton of support for the swedish band (at least the websites I go on anyways).

Sarellano

Empty, No saline when they placed my band. At 6 weeks(Sept 24) under fluro I got 1.75ccs. On Nov. 21, blind fill, the doctor removed all but .25cc and filled me to 3.5ccs where I'm at now.

I know that Dr Sanchez prefers to place the AMI around stomachs with alot of fat, and the AMI is like a tie-wrap with notches, it can be placed tighter on some people which is determined during the calibration process while in sugery.

Karen and Barb on this forum also with AMI's have large fills, I believe Barb is at 7ccs.

Who placed your band?

In southern California, the clinical trials for the Obtech Band were conducted at Scripps (La Jolla, I think). I'd start there, in the bariatric surgery department. Try (858) 554-5522, Dr. Brunson. My guess is that other than those doctors who were in the clincal trials, US doctors will have almost no experience in this department.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
