this is my one week after surgery. i am starving! im so sick of broth, Water and ice. what else can i have? i just started Jello. this is what i had yesterday: 2 -20 oz bottles of crystal light, 2 jellos, 1 12oz cup of chicken broth. that is so plain. so i started putting some lemon on it. it helps alittle. i need to know what else i can add to my diet. let me tell you, we had the halloween party at our house, and boy o boy was that hard. please give me some suggestions. i am starting to feel a little depressed and thinking maybe this wasnt for me. i was such a bad eater. a "junk food" eater. help!!!

After week 1, I was allowed small curd cottage cheese, fat-free refried Beans, light yogurt, sf Jello, sf popsicles. I only had to do that for 2 days then was able to go onto more soft foods.

Follow your doctor's guidelines, because they can vary. During the liquid phase, my doc recommended:

Carnation Instant Breakfast, juice, yogurt, pudding, malt-o-meal, instant mashed potatoes (made thin), and cream Soup (strained and made thin). Those really helped with hunger.

It is crazy how every doctor is so different. I am craving hummus right now.... can't decide if I should have some or not. I feel like I can keep asking until I get the answer I want.

I had a burger and fries from Dairy Queen one week after surgery... but that certainly wasn't the greatest idea I'd ever had...

I think everone of us feels like we made a mistake right after the band operation. as you start loosing more and are able to do things you couldnt because of your weight ,,,it all will be worth it.... the begining is the toughest, like everyone said all doctors are different what they say u can have.. I lived on won ton Soup just the broth no dumplings and cottage cheese whipped type...... good luck and keep thinking about how youre gonna look and feel one year from now!

Hi Jodi~

I know how you feel, I was banded on October 27th and it was hard for me too. After 2 days of chicken broth I said NO WAY!! I went to a Chinese Restaraunt and order won ton Soup. I asked if I can only have the broth and nothing else. It tasted so much better. I hope this helps you~

Good Luck,

Dana

I made egg drop Soup at this point: recipe is on this website but here is a summary

Low sodium veg broth

warm up to almost boiling

drop in egg white while stirring, don't let the yolk get in there

add garlic powder, onion powder, and / or ginger powder to taste

lots of Protein and still liquid!

Blended low-cal yogurt was allowed post-op for me and I found that to be the most satisfying thing that I was permitted to have. Other options on my post-op all liquid diet were diluted clear sugar-free juices, skim milk, pureed Soups, broths, sugar-free puddings and sugar-free popcicles.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
