??'s I always forget to ask the Dr...

Recommended Posts

I'm currently in the preop process to get insurance to approve and I always forget to ask the Dr these questions. If you could help me out I would appreciate it.

1--caffiene drinks? I'm a huge Pepsi Max addict..it's horrible I would like to cut back to 1 a day anyway, but is even the 1 a day off limits..I don't like coffee or tea.

2--lifting after surgery? Any weight limits..my 2yo so is 36lbs? would this cause a problem?

Thanks

Unfortunately, your doc is probably going to tell you that you can't drink carbonated products--so, unless you let the Pepsi Max sit out until the carbonation is gone, that will be off limits..

As far as weight restrictions, you will probably have some right after surgery--but once you heal, you will be able to go back to normal activity

Good luck

Congrats on beginning your journey. Your doc will probably tell you no carbonated drinks... besides sodas and sweetened drinks are a bunch of empty calories and self defeating. I was a huge soda addict too, however I quit them cold turkey and haven't missed them one bit. Some docs feel that carbonated beverages may stretch the pouch. As far as lifting, I had surgery on Monday and am not allowed to lift anything more than 20 pounds for 2 weeks. It's a precaution to make sure the body heals well after surgery.

In regards to the lifting, I am not sure. I don't have kids, so I didn't have to worry about that.

But in regards to the pop, you can have a pop if you can tolerate it. You can try to have it after you have been healed and you feel "normal" and know your limits with eating. If you can drink it without feeling too bloated or gassy, then you can have pop. It won't hurt your band...that is what my Dr. told me, and he is one of the 8 Dr. on the Lap Band Board....or whatever it is called.

I tried my first one yesterday, but I didn't like the feeling it gave me. So I won't have it again for a while. I am good with water!!

The soda will most likely have to go. Once in a blue moon I will steal a sip from my niece who yells at me. LOL

As for the lifting I was told to "use caution" for 6 weeks. I milked that the whole time and had my sister do my laundry since machines are in basement. TEE-HEE

The other thing I had to watch was my school bag. I gets very heavy. I had students or my carpool buddy carry it for a bout 2 weeks.

Best of luck as you begin your lap-band ride.

Most doctors veto carbonation; I think you'll probably find it's really uncomfortable (and, believe it or not, that you don't even like it any more. I know! I didn't believe it, either. I was the biggest diet soda addict on the planet---a decades-long addiction. I gave it up, and now when I sneak a sip from one of my kids to wash down a Vitamin or something, it tastes awful).

I was not allowed to lift until after my 4-week check, after which I was cleared to do any activity, without restriction.

The good thing about a toddler is that s/he can climb up into your lap so that you don't need to lift

My doc is in the no carbonation camp, ever, for band-related issues. I had to give up my Diet DP habit and my love of microbrewed beers.

I would suggest weaning off of the caffeine gradually pre-op to save yourself the withdrawal headache.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
