Pain assoc with too much food..remedy?

Recommended Posts

Tried a small amount of chicken with a small corn tortilla (week 4...solids) and I felt ok until about an hour after I finished eating. The pain is pretty intense and I'm wondering is this what others are talking about when something is stuck? Is there ever a risk of the pouch tearing? Should I drink some Water to help get it through. My stomach is noticeably distended now. HELP.

you could try teeny tiny sips of hot tea. But take it very slow because if you add too much Fluid too fast, you'll make things worse. Warm liquids tend to make the band relax a little and that may be enough to let what is stuck slide on down.

some say walking around helps, some folks say the chicken dance works (never did for me), some say sip (again, teeny sips) pineapple juice, some say take papaya enzyme. Both the pineapple juice and papaya enzyme are supposed to help speed digestion along. I think it just takes time myself.

I know when I first had these feelings, I thought to myself If I didn't know I had a band, I would think I'm having a heart attack.

Anything is possible, but I doubt you'll tear the pouch with a corn tortilla and some chicken. Next time leave off most of the tortilla and make sure the chicken is moist. Chew chew chew.. tiny tiny tiny bites.

Hope you feel better soon.

Hm...was it a soft tortilla? I can't eat really doughy, flour tortillas (or anything doughy really). I found some low carb, whole wheat ones that I can eat, but theyre super thin and not doughy.

When I'm stuck I can usually feel it within minutes. Doesn't usually happen an hour later, but we're all different. But my tummy does get really distended when I'm stuck or I overeat. I sip Water sometimes to help pass it through (doesn't always work), but don't gulp as its likely to just come right back up (literally). I've heard papaya enzyme helps too, but I've never tried it. If I'm wearing a tight bra or pants with a tight waist band I undo them as sometimes that helps it go down. I also walk around, and sometime that helps. If it doesn't help it go down, it at least relieves some of the discomfort.

Not sure about yours, but my doctor specifically prohibits any breads, potatoes, pastas, etc for the first year. One, he doesn't want it in the beginning because things get stuck. Two,carbs don't do anything for weight loss, but cause sugar spikes. As tempting as a tortilla is, I'd not eat any bread at all(says she who has the yummy uncooked flour tortillas in the fridge that are calling my name)

I'm still uncomfortable this morning and I am thinking I will stop by some place like whole foods and try to find papaya enzyme. Believe me when I say it is going to be a long time before I have another tortilla! It was really moist from the chicken juices so I thought it would be ok...thanks

I found papaya at Walmart in the Vitamin aisle. Good luck.

If you are still sore and uncomfortable this morning, take it easy on food today as well. Might want to do 24 hours of liguids/mushies just to give yourself a chance to heal, as you can get some swelling.

When I'm craving a drink after a meal, I generally chew some gum or suck on sugar-free candy.. last week accidentally swallowed a candy... and did THAT EVER HURT!! Ended up drinking some hot tea just to get it to dissolve and pass, but I could feel the sharp edges in the opening.. Finally went though, but was sore the next day. Did a day of liquids/mushies, and felt much better.. Was definitely swollen after that...

I use papaya enzymes and find they do work for most. When I venture to eat something doughy and soft like a tortilla, I tend to take them with the first bite to be proactive. I waited about 6 months out from my surgery before eating tortilla or doughy breads, pastas, etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
