My first nsv since being banded

Recommended Posts

Well I wad banded 2 weeks ago today. I returned to work today and I was already nervous about people asking me where I had been for 2 weeks. So as I was walking down the hall a co worker of mines screamed omg where is the rest of you??? I asked her what did she mean? She said I mean you look so different and you lost allot of weight what have you been doing? I just smiled and nodded and s as id oh working out. Then I said you know what I am lying I got the lap band! She was so suprised but then said how she wanted to get it but was scared. It made me feel really good because I knew that I lost over 20 pounds but I didnt think it made that much of a difference. My question is I dont feel like everyone should know my business but if someone ask me what have I been doing to loose the weight should I lie? I dont want to be like star jones. I am so confused and just want to sit a @ my desk all day so no one can see me.

Congrats on your success! I can understand about not thinking your weight loss has made a big difference. I'm down 26 lbs and I still can't really tell. But I have gotten compliments which is nice.

Personally, I haven't been telling anyone. To think about it I was only asked once. I didn't lie per se but I just omitted the lap band part, I said "I'm watching what I eat and exercising" which is 100% true. I just don't want people knowing because I don't want that to become the center of all our convos. I've seen it happen and I don't want it. Maybe as more weight comes off things will change but as of right now that's how I'm feeling. :)

Congrats again and good luck, the first day of work is always the toughest!! :hi:

I am right there with you. I went back to work for the first time yesterday. One of my co-workers said, "wow you are really looking good, getting skinny"...I just said thank you and that I am really trying. A few people know, but I'm like you, I don't think everyone needs to know. I would never deny it if asked, but I don't feel like everyone needs to know full disclosure.

You don't have to lie. Not telling everything isn't lying, IMO.

I tell people who aren't particularly close to me that I'm eating better (not perfect..lol) and working out. If they're close or if I see that they're struggling with their weight, I'm much more likely to share about my surgery.

I have yet, in 19 months, have anyone say that WLS is the easy way out. Probably because most of the time people know how hard I'm working in the gym. :)

Congrats on your 20+ lbs lost. :hi: I put + .. cause I'm sure it's more by now.

Thanks for all your advise. I agree I dont want to be the center of anyones conversation. So I will just keep it simple and say I am eating better and working out.

Congratulations!:) It feels wonderful, doesn't it? I haven't told anyone at work either. People have noticed that I have been getting a little smaller, but I just tell them that I have been really trying to watch what I eat. I don't think that's being untruthful at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
