I joined last year when I first started thinking about this but it kind of went to the way side. I'm back, I'm ready and I'm going to my seminar next week. I am so excited to get this started. I am hoping to shed 115lbs with this process. Little about me, I am a wife and a mother of 2 young kids. I work full time out of the home and play part time chauffeur to the kids. I'm hoping to get to know you all and get information and support during this process.

Welcome and congrats on your decision to make life a healthier one for yourself and your children. I wish you the best as you go through this process.

I was banded June, 2008 and am in the maintenance stage. I can tell you that EVERYTHING is easier with the weigh not hanging on me. I will be 55 yrs old in a couple of weeks and I have the energy of a 19yr old.

Any questions?

Oh gosh, do I have questions? TONS!!!!!!!!! Unfortunately most of mine will have to be answered by my surgeon. Things like pre-op procedure, diet, follow-up appts, and insurance requirements. I know I qualify BMI of 41.5 and a few comorbidities but will there be any hoops. I am trying to wrap my head around all of this! I can’t wait til the seminar; I think that will at least give me a direction. It’s one of the 2 Drs in the practice that do it so I am sure they will be explaining more about their procedures. I have noticed from all the posts things vary so greatly from surgeon to surgeon.

Your story is so encouraging! I can't wait for energy!!!!!

Yes, there are many different pre-op, post-op procedures required by docs.

The only bit of advice I can give is to follow what your own doc requires of you and to learn as much as you can prior to surgery. Be prepared. Read everything you can on Lapbandtalk and also ask your doc for info.

I was required to do a 6 mo medically supervised diet by the insurance company. I was so disappointed at first but it was the best thing for me. I prepared myself by eating as close to a banded person as I could during that time. It helped...I lost 52lbs prior to surgery and it made the post-op period a lot easier for me.

Good Luck...you sound sooooooo excited.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
