How Long Does It Take?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery this past Friday (10/29) and am still very sore. My back hurts terribly and so does my throat. I was very nauseous, but when I called the surgeon, he just told me to stop taking pain medicine (that will make the nausea worse) and get something for anti-nausea over the counter. It is now almost Tuesday and I am still pretty much hobbling around. I am supposed to be back to work on Thursday...did anyone else encounter this much discomfort? I'm still glad I did this, but it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when I'm still so miserable!

yes! I was in a lot of pain for several days after surgery. Try ice packs and the heating pad they help wonders! Dont worry, you will feel better soon!

Not unusual at all. Some people bounce right back and others like me take a long time to feel better (2 weeks). I remember commenting to my husband about having new empathy for those who suffer from chronic pain. :)

I think you should call your doctor again and talk about your level of discomfort and that you are supposed to return to work on Thursday and see if they can help.

Best of luck to you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
