You need to try and prove that it is a medical nessasity. Take a look in the cosmetic surgery forum for more detailed info

I've heard that if you can document repeated yeast infections where the skin folds over.. that it might be covered.

I am far from an expert but I would say not. I think it is a long incision.

does any one know if an apron can be removed with out general anesthesia

I don't think I'd want it removed w/o general. Maybe and this is a HUGE maybe.. with a spinal.. but there would have to be mighty compelling reasons to avoid general & only have spinal.

I think I'd rather deal with the apron to be honest. This from someone who's had 6 surgeries, including the band.

OK, now I don't feel so weird. I feel the same way. I've only had a couple surgeries in my life and only 2 in the last 40 years (c-section and band)...both of which were comparatively minor compared to the type of cosmetic surgery we're looking at after losing massive amounts of weight. I recovered very quickly from both with little to no pain (without pain meds) but I don't like the way I feel after coming out of anesthesia or the recuperation time. I know all of those things will be worse with the cosmetic surgery.

Since I will never wear a bikini in public and I generally wear 3/4 length sleeves and capri length pants, I'm thinking a body shaper might do me well.

To the OP...if you have diabetes, many insurance companies will pay since you're prone to skin infections and slow healing. Many will also pay if you have documented (through your physician) cases of infection underneath the apron.

Whoops.. incomplete thought/posting on my part. What I meant was that I'd rather deal with the apron than to have the surgery without general anesthesia.

Right now I'm flip/flopping back and forth on the idea of plastics. I'm 53.. can't see me having a bikini body ever again, and yet, there's only so much that Spanx can accomplish. And since I'm not employed and dh is looking to retire in the next few years, can I justify the expense? I just dunno. :)

Sorry for the confusion.

As much as I hate the idea of the apron, I have to agree with you Elfiepoo ... I hate the after effects of anesthesia and the sad but true fact is that at my age I am NEVER going to wear a bikini. I can live with that. I have been satisfied with a slow but steady weight loss because I see my stomach getting smaller but my skin isn't going anywhere! LOL I hate that look but ... oh well, what can I do. I would only have surgery to remove the apron if I kept getting an infection. If I were younger I'm sure I would think quite differently.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
