I know but I have been trying to get banded since July 2010. My breast reduction took less time.. Its just really disappointing..

I was first seen by the surgeon in October of 2007 and didn't get my surgery until April of 2008. I had to see 16 different specialists for testing before the surgeon would proceed with the surgery! It's hard to wait when you are ready to move on with it, but try to be patient. It is well worth it in the long run!

I know but you get soo close then you hit just another bump in the road. I really didn't think that it was going to take this long.

I started my lap band journey in March 2008 and didn't get banded until February 2009. I was denied, several times, had to keep writing letters, and it was really frustrating, and depressing. I wanted to give up.

But I kept coming here, and doing other things that would help me get ready for the changes I knew would come. I was already exercising, for example, and I started to practice chewing more slowly and taking longer. Sometimes it helps to take your mind off how far away it is.

Look, it's November, now. The new year isn't really that far away. I know it's hard, but try to accept that the time will come. If you can't get banded until 2011, you're only going to make yourself feel worse by thinking about the fact that it's not happening sooner.

Start a thread for people who might be getting banded the same time you're looking at, or join one if one is already here. I found it really helpful to talk to people who shared the same month as I did.

Trust me, once you have your date, the time will go quickly. It did for me. You might find you have all kinds of emotions when your surgery date gets closer too. This is a good time to learn all you can. .

And keep posting! That really helped me too

Good luck! (Edited to say)-- (I see you've already done lots of stuff I suggested! Sorry, should have read that before I posted.) :embarrassed:

Debbie.

I am trying to stay focused.. but at times no matter how focused you are you going to feel like a failure or everyone is out to get you.. I guess this is my point. I am a type of person that likes things to be 123 instead of 1 3 2.. I really like order. I just knoow that I am ready to get on with everything and get to where I know its going to happen.. It seems like it will never happen.. I even had all of the money up front I am also worried about spending in on stuff..

I am soo tired of being fat and overweight.. I am ready to be healthy and be a good example for my little girl. i think once I have this I will one feel better about myself..

*hugs* Everything will be okay, sweetie. I know what you mean, though. I started consulting with a doctor in 2008, and I'm just NOW getting banded in December 2010 after I finally decided to self-pay. Stupid insurance would only save me about $400...and they don't even cover fills. Just try to be proactive, and stay on the boards, it's helped me alot with passing the time! Good luck!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
