I have BC/BS of Alabama and have been denied because my weight for 2008 was just under what it needed to be to qualify. Has anyone else had this happen? The lady at my dr's office said she was going to appeal. How long does that process take? I am really anxious and don't want to wait any longer and will be devastated if I don't get approved!!!

Unfortunately the insurance companies can make this process very very difficult. I wish you good luck with the appeal!

I worked in the insurance field for a bit and the appeal can normally take just as long as the initial process, more or less just depends. If you don't mind me asking what weight did you fall down to during that time? I'm starting my pre work to submit to the insurance and I too got down to the 186 range one month but it quickly jumped back up a few months later. That has me worried as well. What weight are you at now?

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
