Interesting...because for the last month I have been eating 1200 calories a day and walking 3 miles at a brisk pace (unable to talk while walking) every day. As of this morning, I am once again 3 pounds *heavier* than when I started a month ago.

Don't be so quick to accuse someone of 'cheating'.

Elfiepoo, no one would EVER accuse you of cheating! I have read enough of your posts to know how hard you are working to get to your goal. But, here's the thing ... something is not right ... your doc needs to be looking into this because it just doesn't seem possible that you would have gained weight. Have you asked your doc how this could be possible? Can't be "gaining muscle", could it? I wouldn't think so, but ...

I am not being sarcastic, I am genuinely curious about the phenomenon. I hope things get better soon and the weight starts to melt off. :thumbup:

By the same token I don't think that Kelly was accusing Ayana of "cheating" (and neither was I). My point had nothing to do with cheating.

wow i dont have any advice but i sure hope you get results soon! i am not banded yet, but that scares me!

Don't be scared Oceangirl. For every negative story there are 10 success stories. The best thing you can do is YOUR HOMEWORK. Learn exactly how the band works and you'll have fewer surprises. If you haven't already chosen your surgeon take a look on this forum for advice about choosing a WLS. This forum is full of good information. There are many, many knowledgeable people here. READ, READ, READ.

The bariatric doc is at a loss. They want me to go to the nutritionist. I see no point since I showed them a printout of my food log and they agree I'm doing very well on making good choices and on controlling the quantity. A week ago someone from the clinic called and asked if I'd lost any weight since my visit. When I said 'no', she asked if I wanted to consider a bypass. I get the feeling that they think my food log was made up and I'm not exercising. *I* would think the same thing if someone had told me they were eating 1200 calories, walking and not losing weight in a month. :)

My regular doc who specializes in diabetes says 'it just takes time' although I have another appointment on Nov 22nd and she's going to do a thyroid test and a couple hormone tests.

I thought eliminating carbs right down below 30 would help since that's how I lost 70 lbs a few years back, but even that doesn't seem to be helping. Very frustrating. I got on the scale this morning and I'm now another pound heavier. To be honest, I just want to cry. I've never worked so hard at losing weight as I have this last month and *nothing*.

Fortunately, I long ago cleaned out my pantry so I don't even have the ingredients to make a batch of Cookies to drown my sorrows in and by the time I go to the store to get the stuff, I'll have come to my senses.

Ok <shaking myself off>...think I'll go online and see if I can find a Zumba class to work off my frustration. They're like fleas around here so that shouldn't be a problem.

I have no clue on the reason for gain, but have a suggestion.

Start taking your measurements. Record them now and check them again in a month. Note what you are wearing and measure wearing the same thing next month. My trainer says to measure as early in the day as you can before you get active to minimize the muscle swelling effect.

I started doing this when my weight loss slowed way down and I was getting discouraged. I've seen a big change in measurements. Yesterday I took back to the store 5 pairs of shorts that I bought this summer, but had never worn (still had tags). They were too big. :hi:

Getting thyroid and other hormones checked is a good idea.

I love Zumba. Went to a Zumbathon (3 hours.. I did 2) weekend before last.. it was like being at a club .. minus the alcohol.

Hang in there. Keep us informed of what you find out.

DON"T give up!,thats the old you, you must take some responsibility for whats happening or not happening with your band." you can tolerate as much as you could before being banded???????? really. Is that what you learned in banding 101? REBOOT! Start again continue the fills to help with more restriction.Lapbanding is not a quick fix it takes your commitment to change you !

Girls, girls we are here to support one another not to try and root out where Ayana is at fault!!!! Not everyone has the finances, ability or opportunities that lucky PhranP has. We just can't assume anything on this website.

Ayana, I'm sure you're feeling angry, confused, disappointed and totally frustrated. I get that as I've been in the same boat off and on. After reading some of the more encouraging and informative comments on this thread, I suddenly realised that a big part the problem is lack of restriction and not knowing that there's a journey of a few months to find it - the FAMOUS SWEET SPOT!! My doc has never mentioned it

Ayana, you have been hugely brave in taking this radical step so I encourage you to take a deep breath, grab hold of your courage that's in there somewhere and give it another go. Also phone the doc and discuss having another fill. I am giving it another week of no sense of having had enough (the band is going to give us this message eventually!!) and then I'm going to phone my doc.

We 're all behind you and want you to push through this first hill in front of you. Let us know how you're doing.

I think you need to question your reaction...why do you leap so fast to having it removed? Re-examine all the reasons you wanted it. It sounds like you were not very well-informed about how the band works. It is a just a piece of plastic until proper restriction is reached. It can take many months and many fills to reach restriction. The "best" bandsters will behave as though they are restricted and stick to the band rules and lose weight while waiting for restriction. In a perfect world, we would all be able to do that. In reality lots of us become frustrated (some more quickly than others), feel like we are just on another "diet" (a $17k diet this time), been duped again, test the band to see how much we can eat...yep...can eat a lot just like before and the losing stops. Then we come to our senses - realize we are in "bandster hell" re-commit to the process and work hard every day to get to our goal and PRAY that the next fill will bring us to proper restriction. This is what we all signed up for! I'm sorry if you didn't realize that when you made the decision to get banded. You are very lucky, though! You have a wonderful tool inside you that can make all the difference this time...don't get it removed before you even give it a chance to work :rolleyes: Fear of failure is a big thing...so is fear of succeeding. Which are you most afraid of? I don't ask that question from a place of knowledge...I'm trying to figure it out for myself, too. Lots of us are :wub: Hang in there!

Bet your not eating 1200 cal. a day and exercising 30 min a day 5 days a week! If so, you would be seeing results.
What basis do you have for this insulting statement?

I gain weight on 1200 calories a day. I meticulously journal, and this is how it was determined I was a good candidate for banding.

To lose, I need to drop to 800-900 calories. Yes, a bit different from many. But blanket statements and generalizations caused me a great deal of harm. Health professionals simultaneously insisted I not go below a certain caloric level (a level that, in fact, caused me to gain), then suspected "cheating." It caused me more than frustration; it added considerable weight to my body as I struggled to find what would work for me.

It took me a long time to put the pieces together and head to a bariatrician. It took him about 10 seconds with my journals to see what the problem was. By then, I'd already identified what my needs were, and he confirmed them.

I wish I hadn't listened to the doctors who told me never to go below 1200 calories, and to the Weight Watchers leaders who first insisted, "eat all your points!" then rolled their eyes when, after not losing (or gaining), I insisted I'd followed the program to a T (which I had).

Elfiepoo, you may just be putting on muscle faster then loosing fat at this point. Muscle weighs more than fat.

In my opinion, sarcasm is rarely helpful or supportive.

I do think detailed journaling and a meeting with the nutritionist is an excellent idea.

I hope you get the mechanics all sorted out soon.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
