Been 2 years, need to get back into it all :(

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I was banded 2 years ago and sadly to say didn't stick with it and only went back for 1 fill. I could give a million excuses as to why I just "quit" with it all but bottom line is I'm wanting to get back on the bandwagon and wanting to lose this weight once and for all.

I'm wondering if I just need to make an appointment with my doctor and go in for a fill or if there's more steps involved since it's been nearly 2 years since I've really done anything with it.

I don't really have a lot of restriction right now, and never reached a sweet spot. So I know I definitely need to get back into my doctor. I'm just ashamed I guess and kinda embarrassed to take the leap.

is this common at all or am I just a tool that copped out of weight loss?

Any help/advice/confidence boost would be appreciated, lol. Sorry if this is wrong forums but hoping to get some help here.

Thanks all <3

I say go for it!!! Just admitting that you need to re-commit yourself is a big step. Go to your doctor that performed the surgery and see what they can do fo you first. I'm sure they would still have your files. You might also want to inquire about a local support group. That might be beneficial in keeping you on track. Best of luck!

I would bite the bullet and go for it. What can it hurt? Your Dr will be glad u did I think. And he is there to help and not criticize, or make u feel bad. Do it! Good luck and come back and let us know.

Good deal, thank you :wink2: I'm gonna call them first thing in the morning. I definitely need some support in getting back on track. I'd love to find a local support group I could physically attend.

I didn't fall off the horse for 2 years, but I started giving up (or just getting lazy, actually) sometime around Thanksgiving last year and started back up this past September. Part of me is happy for the experience of regaining 50 pounds because I think I have more insight into myself and my eating behaviors. I also know that I never want to regain that weight again as I just felt so terrible about myself and I hated that feeling of failure so badly. I feel so great now that I got back into the gym, back on this site, and back to food logging. But the hardest part of everything was taking the first step to get back into the gym, logging back in, etc. Now that I'm in a routine, its not as hard. I don't love exercising but I know that and I just tell myself I need to do it anyways - we don't always love the things that we have to do, but we just have to do them anyways. In the past 8ish weeks I've relost 36 of the 50 pounds I gained and haven't felt better.

You can do it! Go back to the doc, I'm sure he's seen this before. You might get a reprimand, but maybe it would be good to hear. And start tomorrow with revamping your eating and go to the gym, even if its just for 20 minutes. Joining a gym and getting a personal trainer to help keep me accountable has been really helpful. Its hard to not show up when someone is waiting for you :wink2: Whatever you do, don't say, "ill do it tomorrow"! You'll never do it :smile2:

Go for it, Billy. I don't know how it works, but since you already have the band, maybe you'll just need to start getting the fills. ...but your stomach pouch may have stretched, so maybe they'll need to do a scan of your stomach to see. Good luck though. Go for it.

Your doctor should have no problem just starting you with fills again since their relationship with you really is a lifelong one...even though at some point you may only see them every year. My surgeon told me that typically they see their patients pretty frequently (every 2-4 weeks) the first year and the 2nd year only a couple times to tweak the band as they lose weight. Once the person is at goal, they generally only see them every 1-2 years, although they'd like the patient to come in at least every 2 years just to update and make sure everything is going well.

Been there! I waited 3 years before going back. My biggest challenge in making the appointment was embarassment and fear of failure.

I made an office visit and the first thing he said was "Welcome Back"! No judgement. Relief.

I never reached a sweet spot either and gave up because of complications. I'm now two weeks after my "first" fill and think I may have it this time ! I'm losing weight and not so angry about not getting to eat what I want. I am NEVER hungry. And this is a FIRST! I love this.

So, you CAN do this! Like someone here said to me, no other procedure gives you a second chance

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
