How long in banster hell?

Recommended Posts

I've had 4 fills since my 8/3 surgery (every 2 weeks) and I am still having little to no restriction. At this point, I m eating very small portions and dealing with the hungry and have been doing so since August.

Those that were in banster hell, how long did it take you to get to your sweet spot? I have my 5th fill this coming week and I'm hoping I get more than .50cc, which is what I've been getting. I know my PA is going slow to get to where I need to be, but I'm really hungry all the time an I don't know how much longer I can keep this up.

My fourth fill was the watershed for me. With the third, I felt ... different, but not significantly. The fourth, which was much smaller in volume, had huge impact. Since then, I've been fine-tuning.

Hang in there--you're doing everything right! You will soon reap the rewards :wink2:

I have to add, it looks like your doctor's really conservative with fill volume; that can stretch things out a bit. My first fill was 4cc, and my second 4.5. I don't know the volumes of subsequent fills (I stopped asking), but they were smaller in volume.

At first, larger volume fills are okay, because they simply don't effect as much of a change. (You won't swell terribly because the band is relatively lax, and not squishing the stomach as much).

With only 4 cc fill now, I wonder if maybe the doctor would be willing to give you a more aggressive fill next time? It's worth asking.

Your doctor sounds agressive with fill timelines not sure how much he is giving you though with each. I have had 2 fills and very little restriction. I wish mine would do every couple weeks especially for the first 6months. My office will only do fills every 6 weeks and they are the freaking longest 6 weeks of my LIFE!! This past month has been really hard for me and trying to stay on track. I know how you feel..I am just hoping that with my 3rd on 11/30 that I will finally feel more restriction!!

A lot of people of people report feeling restriction on the third fill.

I'm trying to understand how big your fills were. In your post you wrote that you had two fills of .5cc but in your signature it says you are up to 6cc?

Which is it?

Did she change it?

I see this:

1st Fill 9/3/10: 2ccs

2nd Fill 9/21/10: 1cc

3rd Fill 10/3/10: 1cc

I heard her say that she's had 4 fills...and in the signature it says 3, so she probably has forgotten to put the 4th in there :wink2:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
