Taking your clothes in at the sides

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I was wondering how many of you are taking their clothes in at the side or are just buying new ones?

I'm one of those horders who've kept all of their clothes since I was 12 upward, thinking someday I'll lose weight, so I'm quite lucky that a lot of those clothes fit me now

I was also thinking of taking my clothes in until I lose all of the weight, that way I won't have to keep buying. (limited moneyz. Student life. Blergh).

Anyone else?

Feel free to post up pictures of stuff you've bought too :smile2:

Well, I'm not to the point where I need to get new clothes yet (I was just banded yesterday!) but I already know that for some of my better-quality clothes I'll definitely be getting them taken in.

I've got clothes from the last 6 years ranging in sizes 14-24--at one point I gained weight so fast I wasn't able to really get a lot of use from some of them.

I have had some stuff taken in.

I need new pants for work desperately. My smallest old stuff (18) are getting too big. (yipee) Just not worth taking those in.

I wish I could sew. The alterations get expensive too.

Ready to try a thrift store next.

It times like these I'm greatful for studying fashion design back in the day. - They taught us to sew.

Edit: I wonder if getting sewing classes would be worth it for people who don't know how to sew?

It's heaps of fun and so much more awesome wearing the clothes that you know actually fit you properly lol.

I have taken in quite a few things. There are some things that would just not be worth all the trouble it would be to take them in properly. My mom started teaching my sister and I how to sew when we were very young (about 4th grade) and I've been sewing ever since.

I too am a clothes hoarder, so it is great to fit in those clothes I have saved thinking I would fit in them again someday.

I can sew but have not bothered too much with alterations. I have been buying clearance from TJ Maxx and Marshalls in a size smaller. This has worked great so far and have gotten some great deals in the process

Over the past few years I've gotten a lot of things that are stretchy (stretchy wastebands, stretchy skirts, stretchy shirts). So I'm hoping that Ill be able to use them for a really long time (hopefully until Im almost at goal). Some of them may look a little big on me, but some of them will obviously look better because they won't be SO stretched. But when I reach my goal, I'm going to go on a CRAZY shopping spree and buy everything Ive wanted since I was young but couldn't wear because I was too fat...

That's a great plan with a really good reward in the end ! :wink2:

Haha thanks  I think we all can relate to that sad feeling when we see a dress in the window that we LOVE but can only dream about wearing. Shopping has always been a depressing event for me and I can't wait to partake in some retail therapy  I really want to feel like "all the other girls" that love to shop. I can't wait to go into the burberry outlet and buy something OTHER than a scarf :P

And actually, my biggest splurge will be for my wedding gown. I'm not going to skimp at all. I have been dreaming about a dress from Amsale (its called Maribel) and I can't wait to visit the Flagship store in NY and slip right into one of those sample sizes :smile2: I will probably take 2 days and go to NY with my mom and sister and future sister in law and go to Amsale, Vera Wang, Priscilla of Boston, maybe Kleinfelds and the Bergdorf Bridal salon and I cant wait for it to be an amazing experience that all brides dream of. I have been dreading wedding gown shopping for years, but not anymore!! I can't wait

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
