Major Bummer ! Surgery post-poned

Recommended Posts

So I had my surgery set up for the 2nd of November. Last week felt a scratchiness in my throat. So I went to my PCP. He gave me some antibiotics. Didn't help. Yesterday I went to an ENT and they told me I was sub-acute chronic tonsilitis. Ughh. Called the surgeon's office, he doesn't want to operate on me for 4-5 weeks.

So bummed, was definitely looking forward to getting banded before Thanksgiving.

Sorry, just needed to vent

That's gotta be tough. At least you'll be able to enjoy Thanksgiving, as little as your pre-op diet lets you. Hope you get better quickly!!

Thanks, that's about the only silver lining I've got, since my surgery prob. won't be until mid December.

I guess it's best to be safe. Their concern was the antibiotics reacting with the anaesthesia. Wouldn't want anything to go wrong.

Definitely. Safer is always better, it's great that your surgeon actually cares enough to postpone. Some of them might just want that payout.

My surgery date is December 23rd, so maybe we can be buddies!

I'm surprised they don't want to take out your tonsills first.

After you get rescheduled, come join us in the December Surgery forum. We're a nice bunch in there.

Totally can feel your pain. If it makes you feel any better my surgery was delayed 5 months!

My surgery wasn't delayed for weeks, but it was delayed for one week. So although I didn't go through exactly what you're going through, I totally understand that sinking feeling when you find out it has to be delayed. What made mine so upsetting was that it was delayed unnecessarily (an incompetent physician who worked in pulmonary made a wrong call a few days before my surgery saying I needed a CPAP and needed ANOTHER sleep test. She said I would need to use it for a week before I had surgery, thus pushing my surgery back...I went ot the sleep test and they said, again, that I DIDN'T need it...it was frustrating). Anyhow, your surgery will be here before you know it!!! You can use this time to start exercising and eating right and stuff and maybe get a few pounds off before the surgery...it will make it even safer! Good luck!

Asked the ENT Doc if they still removed tonsils, she said only in extreme cases. Seems as though they're moving away from that practice. It's a lot more serious in adults than children, and I'd rather have them kept intact if at all possible.

The biggest disappointment is going to have the start the liquid diet all over again, but I've lost a couple pounds on it already, so it isn't that big of a deal.

See you guys in the December forum

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
