Banded 2006-I hate my band

Recommended Posts

Hi, my name is Season and i'm a fat girl. And I hate my band. Or maybe hated?

In May 2006 I was banded with a small fill. At the time there were no instructions, what to expect, etc. I tried to eat beef, broccoli and my favorite veggie Brussel Sprouts. I didn't know they were off limits and neither did my Dr. I was filled and unfilled so many times I can't count. I would vomit in my sleep and the heartburn was unbearable. Finally when I couldn't take it any more I had them remove all but less than 1cc. I had very little restriction. Lost 60lbs during the ups/downs when I couldn't even swallow.

During the three years I never went back to my Dr and yo yo'd but ended up re-gaining 40lbs of lost weight.

October 2010 I am at 240. I went back to my Dr thinking my band had slipped. During fluoroscopy he found that I had stretched my pouch but band in place. He then gave me a little over 1 cc. to make me at 2cc fill.

Today because of this forum I am hopeful. So far I've probably lost about 10lbs and knowing the do's/dont's and what to expect I think I may be successful!

Well, now that you`re willing to work with the band again, assume positive attitude and you will get there. Relationships with the band varies from person to person and we all somehow struggle with it from time to time. It`s a battle that could be won but gets won through so many different means. Incoporate exercise with healthy eating and see how it goes. Wishing you all the best in the rest of your journey.

I think one of the nice things about the band is having second chances like this. If you'd had another surgery type, you wouldn't get a second chance. Good luck on your new journey!

I just got banded on Sept 29. How do I figure out all the do's and donts?

Go to a support group with other people who are banded. Read, research online and asked your surgeon for more details if you need them. There are some good books out there. But do not believe everything you read use wisdom.

Congrats on your new band! I really poured over this site learning what was normal, what wasn't. The food forum is a good place to start. Get to know your "do not eat" foods.

For my area the support groups consist of bypass folks. SO not the same. But if you can find one, that would be perfect!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
