targethungry 0 Posted October 29, 2010 Hi there, I had my gastric band fitted on 15 October last in Belgium. I am still on liquids eg. Soup, yogurts, and my appetite is really returning. I could get a fill on Thursday 4th November next and the next date available after that will be 2nd December. I want to avoid hunger pangs over the next few weeks but am wondering if it would be too early to have my first fill next week on the 4th?? Thanks in advance. vlp1968 83 Posted October 29, 2010 If your doc. is willing to do it I would go for it. I had my first fill 6 weeks after surgery, that was my doc.s policy. I would have loved to had one sooner as my appetite came back just a few days post op.
Melissannde 41 Posted October 29, 2010 I don't know what "brand" of band you have, but the allergan lap-band website recommends 4 to 6 weeks for the first fill. A Safe Procedure for Healthy Weight Loss | LAP-BAND® You may still have hunger issues even after the first fill. It often takes 3 or more to get to good appetite suppression. However, everyone is different and you might be one of the ones who gets hunger dimming with the first fill. Personally, I'd let the stomach heal more before the first fill, but I understand the anxiety about feeling too much hunger too. Follow what your doctor recommends plus your own good judgment. macie1 0 Posted October 29, 2010 I was banded on 13 Oct and I had my first fill yesterday. My dr follows small fills evrytwo to three weeks. I received 1/2 cc, I already had 2 cc in my band from surgery. I think if you need a little then you should go for it.
targethungry 0 Posted October 29, 2010 Thank you very much for the replies. I will call the nurse who does the fills early next week.
Phranp 46 Posted October 29, 2010 (edited) Yes, my doc gave me my first fill 3 weeks after surgery and then every 2 weeks as need. Not had a problem in over a year. Curious though, why did you go all the way to Belgium to have the surgery? No doc closer? Not my business, just curious because it seems a long way to go. Were you able to stay there to recuperate and then enjoy a vacation? ~F Edited October 29, 2010 by Phranp misspelling
targethungry 0 Posted October 29, 2010 Thanks Phran, I am living in Ireland and went to Belgium beause the surgery over there is one third of the price involved in getting the surgery done in Ireland. The surgeon in Belgium, Chris de Bruyne also comes highly recommended.
